Boxer Pal
Hello all!
A little about me... I live in Winchester, VA. I am a recent graduate of the MBA program at the University of Maryland University College. I currently work in Human Services as a Support Coordinator for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities. My hobbies include: watching and playing tennis, as will be obvious in my boxers' names, gardening, surfing the web, and spending time with my pets.
I am the proud owner of two boxer babies! I have a flashy fawn female, Serena, who is 9 months old, as of today, November 27. I also have a brindle male with white markings, Roddick Blade, who will be 4 months old soon. I became instantly fascinated with the boxer breed when I started looking for another dog. I have a catahoula leopard dog, who is the oldest, but he wasn't exactly what I was looking for. He had his puppy behavior for 2 years straight, but then one day, just stopped. His energy level went down, he was less playful, and more of an indoor companion to watch television with, and to keep the bed warm! I did my research and decided that I wanted to have a boxer. I had previously helped my friend in college train her boxer, but never considered owning one because I was afraid they would be too much energy for me, and I didn't have enough space. Additionally, I worried about them jumping the fence. After working through my Master's Degree, I decided to reward myself with Serena. That's when my fascination, excitement, and joy really began with the boxer breed.
I got Serena on May 29, 2010. I found her through our local weekly trader magazine. At first, I was hesitant because I didn't know how my other dog would react, but I went for it. She was one of a litter of 8 puppies and the last one left. When I was able to visit the breeder's website, I picked her out of all the puppies listed, before I knew she was the last one left. One mistake that I made was that I did not do my research about the difference between AKC and CKC pets before I purchased her. I was however, able to meet her mother. She did have a pedigree available. Even after I found out the difference between the two organizations, I was still very happy with my purchase. Serena was my little sidekick and still is. I was amazed how quickly I fell in love with this breed. After I got her, I wanted to know all there is to know about boxers. Which is how I found this website. After a hot, humid fun summer with Serena, I noticed that she and the older dog got along really well, but he just didn't have the energy to keep up with her. Often, it'd be me and her left outside playing while he watched from the porch. It was then that I decided... why not get her a playmate, another boxer. I was a bit hesitant because a lot of the research I had completed stated that a lot of the time, the boxer's biggest enemy within the canine world is another boxer. Especially between two females. However, I decided to go against the research, and do things my way, instead though, I purchased a male boxer...
Enter Roddick, my little brindle male. This time, I did the research using the AKC website to find a breeder. I went out to the breeders home when the puppies were two weeks old and was able to visit the family and the parents of the puppies. I was also able to have the pick of the liter, as I was the first one to inquire about them. Roddick is the best thing that has happened to Serena thus far (except me ;-)). From the day he entered the picture, they have been joined at the hip. They play together all the time, nap together, DIG together, and compete for attention together. She has taught him everything, including most of his housebreaking, socials skills, and how to be a boxer! They absolutely adore each other, and best of all, my older dog, gets to be the babysitter and only intervene when they play too rough and remains well-rested!
As well as they get along, they have two different personalities:
Serena: more playful, kidney bean dances, loud and barky, very loyal but also enjoys self-time
Roddick: Playful, yet on guard, more alpha, very loyal and adores all human interaction

Welcoe to BW. You are only 20 minutes away from me. I come to Winchester to the Dog Park all the time. Maybe we can meet each other one day at the park?
