HI to All,
i just wanted to share my sad news today about my Sarah (5yr old flashy fawn) she had been incontinent alot more than usual and drinking more water than usual. she has had a leaky faucet for 2yrs but somrthing seemed wrong. took her to the vet on tuesday with a urine sample and her concentration is very dilute( specific gravity 1.012 for any medical personnel). she has some bacteria in it so she started antibiotics and i thought it was a cystitis. she had labs drawn and all the results today point to early kidney failure:( I cannot believe it. Nothing they can do except put her a special kidney food from the vet by eukanaba. can give her fluid boluses later SQ if needed. the vet did not know how long she would have...some go fast and others not. Her labs are abnormal but not terribly high. the prognosis is not good. i feel sick. I lost my last boxer Cleo at 7 from lymphoma. what is it with this breed??? I love them so much, but it is heartbreaking. I will still have Mandy(brindle age 11!!) who is as strong and healthy as a bull. My husband said no heroic measures and no more dogs. I feel so sad.. All you do from now on is look at them and wonder how long they have. I am not telling my kids until she becomes more symptomatic. they will be crushed. I would love to hear from anyone anyone with any experience with kidney failure in a boxer or info on the diet. thanks.
