Rehoming one dog

My three Boxer home is about to be a two Boxer home. For those who don't remember, I took in a third dog two months ago with the intention of rehoming her once she was healthy enough. I haven't been pursuing this...was going to keep them all. I've recently come across a man who just lost one of his Boxers. His female suddenly died and his male is mourning her terribly. I was going to let him see Sammie. He came over and fell in love with Skynyrd...who was just as taken with him. He's a great dog owner (uses the same vet I do..and my mom works there so I have the inside scoop). I'm going to let him take Skynyrd on a trial basis tomorrow. I know the male/male thing may not work but he wants to try. If they aren't compatible now (or in a year or ten), I'll gladly take him back. I love him but I feel like this is supposed to happen. I don't know what I want more...for it to work out or not.

What a great big heart you have! My DH and I had two females once(breeds other than boxers) and they did not get along for about a week. Then were the best of friends, until we helped Sophie to the bridge at age 15. Sophie would clean Katies ears and Katie(our shephard mix) would turn her head so Sophie would do it just right! I've done some searching on boxer rescue sites and have found that some will not allow 2 females, but none(that I searched in the North West) prohibited 2 males from being together. Thats a good sign and I hope it works out! If not, sounds like he has a great home to come home to.

Clearly Skynyrd is going to be loved to pieces no matter which home works out best for him. At this point it sounds like it's up to the dogs to see who gets along best.

The kind of caring and love that you are showing for both Skynyrd and this gentleman is rare and precious. You are indeed a very, very special person to put what is best for others first, and then to make it sound as though it is a very simple, basic necessity. You are a blessing to all.

Skynyrd's new dad just picked him up. As we sat in the driveway waiting on him, he was better behaved than he ever has been. He hopped right up in the truck and looked at me like "well, it's been great...see ya later." He's going to call me in a few days and let me know how it's going.
