I brought Riley to the vets to have this thing checked out and unfortunately, she was unable to tell either way if this bump is a histiocytoma or a mast cell tumor. She did an Aspirate to check the cells under the microscope and while she couldn't say either way, she did say that there were some cells that really concerned her. Her recommendation was to have the lump surgically removed as a precaution. So, next Monday I'll be dropping Riley off at the vets at 8am and provided everything goes well, he'll be able to come home that night.
I've been worried about this since I came home. This vet has been our vet for several years (at least 13 years) so I have a lot of faith and trust in her. I'm just worried about Riley. He's not even three years old yet and now there's a chance that he may have cancer... I'm just at a loss. He's to young to have to go through something like this.
To make matters worst, tonight when I got home I noticed that there was blood on the floor where he was playing. Turns out he has a similar lump on the underside of his chin. Once we get settled in for the night, I'll be checking Riley's entire body out from head to tail. Every inch will be scrutinized and I'll be calling the vet again tomorrow morning to have them make notes on his file so they can check into what ever else I can find (hopefully there aren't anymore) when I drop him off Monday morning. Of course I'll also mention in the pre-op appointment.
So, that's the latest I have for now. Once I get more info, I'll post an update. Please keep Riley in your thoughts...
