Red/brown on white nails- normal?

Thank you all for your replies- sounds like this is pretty normal. But the few comments about it possible being fungus has me wondering. I'll check with my vet the next time we're there (in a couple weeks) although I know the vet already thinks I'm completely paranoid with my never ending questions.

On a different- we took Bella all over the place today and it was so much fun. We saw two boxers at Petco and we exchanged emails with one owner so that the two Bellas could play together. And then we saw saw two larger, beautiful boxers in Los Gatos. One wanted to eat Bella, but he was sooo pretty nonetheless

which petco are you talking about??? are you talkng about the one in blossom hill???

It is a fungus type deal but it won't cause any problems. It's pretty common in boxers. You don't need meds or anything for it.

Don't go by this definatley, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you lightly file the tops of the nails, it somes off?? I don't see how it could hurt to try it!

yup in near independence and once in a while i take Nitro to the park across independece but only if im really tired hehehehhe...

I just looked at Syd's nails and he has a few that are like this.

Does anyone have an answer as far as if this is normal or if this is something that needs to be seen by the vet?

I know this is an old post but I did some research before I started a new post and founds this one?

Blizzy's nails would do that. Then they'd be all white again and then I'd notice the "discoloration" for lack of a better word. I have an eagle eye on Carson and Echo to see if they also do that.

It is fungus, and while it is prevalent, I don't know that I would call it "normal." Liza had this too but it went away when we changed her food (from one that was causing her allergies). It also helped when we were bathing her feet with a tea tree oil mix (tea tree oil is an antifungal). If your dog is not symptomatic I wouldn't worry about it but if you see frequent foot licking and/or chewing then I would do my best to erradicate the yeast.

You stated that Blizzy's nails would do that? Did you do anything for them or they just changed back periodically.

Syd's feet do not bother him at all.

mmsimon - Did the vet state that it was a fungus and suggest you to change foods?
