Funny you should say that cause I've already done that! Well, not the cane, but police were approaching me while I was walking him on the platform and I immediately started acting like he was leading me and I couldn't see. Pretty funny considering he was seven months old at the time and he was lucky to lead himself places without bumping into walls. I felt a bit guilty impersonating a blind man, but I didn't get a ticket!

I think I may have found something that would be perfect for you.

http://www.omahavaccine.com/store/crates_kennels.html

If you scroll half way down the page it is called, Portable Pet Home Lightweight Kennel & Shelter. This is from a pet supply catalog sales company out of Omaha, called Omaha Vaccine. The large size on there is $81. For the same one at Target it's $120. I'm not trying to advertise for the company, I don't work for them. They just have really great prices. This may be the type of crate you need. You could walk him to the subway and set this up on the subway.

i know its been a while, but...

i was just wondering if you ever found a way to get to central park with your pup? i am moving to manhattan in august, and this has been a HUGE concern of mine. i will have my car stored away somewhere (on long island), but most likely it will stay parked unless i need it for a road trip.

i think we will end up in the east or west village if all goes well.. so we will have thompson square park if we end up on the east side. but if we end up on the west side i am not sure what roxy and i will do.. any suggestions?? i have read on this thread that there are great parks in brooklyn, on 42nd and on 88th.. but i'll need to figure transportation out, or find something further downtown..

any luck with the town cars? did they say they'll take dogs?

sorry for all the questions! thanks for any info you may have ! ;)

First, let me recommend the site www.urbanhound.com. It lists all the dog parks and information about dogs in NYC.

I bought a Midwest Canine Camper. I haven't used it yet, but it seems to be a great product. Don't believe the sizes though, the one I got was recommended for Lhasa Apso sized dogs, and he fits well enough for a short train ride. There are special pet taxis, but I haven't used one yet. Others I know have, and said their fine, but a bit pricey.

I think this city is a great place to have a dog. I don't know how people outside of the city exercise their dogs enough!

WOW!! THAT WAS FAST!

thanks for your suggestions- you have no idea how EXCITED i am to get roxy up there!!

we hike in the woods all the time down in maryland where i am now, but i also bring her into baltimore a lot. i think she will love all the sights and smells in the city. i am bringing her up for the first time in april. (i would do it sooner, but i take the train up each week, so i want to make sure if i drive the weather will be nice and it will be worth it!)

i will check out that site and look for the carrier that you got for the subway. if you think of it, please let me know how that goes.

i can't wait to be in a place where there is an endless sidewalk!!:D

There is a dog run in Washington Square Park that gets a lot of action. If you like star-gazing I have seen a few there. And you can always use the West Side Highway for walking your dog.

there's a run there, too?? awesome. i spend most of my time in the east village right now because that's where my boyfriend lives, so i'm not too familiar with the west side yet. i will make a point of checking washington square park out soon!

thanks for all of the great info you guys!! ( :
