My Wife and I just recently became foster parents to an owner surrender boxer. She is the most lovable thing. The sad thing is that she is 7 years old and now is when the owners decided to give her up. It will be difficult to place her due to her age. ( Just Venting ) Anyways, My questions has to do with the fact that she is constantly panting. Could this be due to the fact that she may be stressed from being pulled from her home? We always keep plenty of water for her and Chyna and the house is kept cool because of the AC running most of the day.

Just moving this to the Health Forum, where you'll get more appropriate exposure.

Just a thought but do you think the air conditioning is making her worse. I can only speak for myself but at work when the AC is on my chest feels really tight and dry. I also think she is stressed out but I would get her checked by a vet incase there is something else going on too. My old dog Gemma had hip displacia (sp?) and used to pant alot when she was in pain with it.

I would definitely take her to the vet.. Does she have other things going on likr drinking a whole bunch of water? I just lost my Lucy to Cushing's Disease and one of the symptoms is constant panting... I'm not tryin to scare you but just get it checked out. :)
Keep us posted.

Not to be a bummer but I know things like cancer and heart problems will cause a dog to pant even when they are cool, I made the mistake of keeping dutch either air conditioned or near a fan when she had cancer (and a heart problem) because she always seemed so warm but when the vet took her temperature during a visit she was actually too low, but she was still panting. Duke also panted when he got a brain tumor they were both older than 7 but I would still get a check up beter to be safe with and older dog.

I agree, she needs to go to the vet. My female had Cushings disease and panting is one of the symptoms. I thought she was panting because of medication we gave her to help with incontinence. It breaks my heart to think she suffered with Cushing much longer than we knew.
Panting in dogs, is a sign of many things, including pain and high blood pressure. My heart goes out to you for taking in this older girl.

I also agree....take her to the vet. We just lost our family boxer to Cushings yesterday. Panting was one of her symptoms too. Like you nanabear, I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that she was most likely sick for 1/2 of her life, she was 8 when she passed. It's such an awful disease and hers progressed to give her a tumor in her head the size of a golf ball, pressing right on her pituitary gland, destroying anything that dogs find pleasure in. I miss her so and am so upset she can't enjoy the sunshine and birds anymore. But she isn't suffering anymore which is the most important. Bless you for taking attention to an older rescue dog...she needs you!
