Randomly Quit Liking Food?

So about 2 weeks ago, I started weaning Baxter onto a new food. Initially, I gave him some (as treats) to see if he liked it. I have been blending the food with the old. Now for some odd reason, he doesnt seemingly have much interest in his food. Eventually he eats it but it is nothing like how he used to.

When he does eat, he does not pick through the food for one type vs. the other.

Any ideas why he is now being picky? Also, if I am giving him treats as rewards (housetraining) throughout the day, how much of a factor could this be playing to his seemingly lack of hunger?

If he gets hungry he will eventually eat, they won't starve themselves. And yes too many treats throughout the day could decrease his appetite and only want the good stuff, . I'm not sure how much you feed at once,or how often, but maybe if you decrease his food a little and not feed as often his appetite will get better and want to eat. They can be picky little eaters. I'm not sure if this helps any, but good luck

Is the new food as good a quality as the old food? If not, this could be a reason. Also, I'd subtract the number of treats you give from the total kibble fed, so as not to overfeed. This may keep him hungrier.

You can also add a little bit of yogurt or pumpkin to the kibble to encourage the eating... it's good for their digestion too. My little girl doesn't eat the kibble dry as easily as when I stir in some pumpkin or greek yogurt... she gobbles it up with that in the mix!

I've got one dog that will eat anything and everything, and another that sounds a lot like Baxter (especially when she was younger). She would choose to skip meals but everyone in the home made sure to not encourage/supplement her intake with treats (human or dog) or switching food and stick to the routine of putting the food down, giving her time and then taking it away if she decided she didn't want it. She gets treats during the day if she eats her food. So long as what you're feeding is good quality and not making Baxter sick. Some people may disagree but from my experience a dog given a choice, chooses. And a picky eater can be hard to please. I'd probably give it a bit more time.
