No need to elaborate, you're absolutely right :) Back of the neck is not back of the torso (that would be basically anything from about the withers back, IMO), and many show dogs have white on the back of the neck.

Prices

I am about to bring home a fawn-female black masked puppy in around 3 weeks, and the breeder is charging me $650. I have spoken with over 20 breeders in the past 6 months, most of which show their dogs and charge well over $1000. With regard to the $3000 price tags someone mentioned earlier, well, I am from NJ and know the breeder they are speaking about and it is true. A good friend of mine went there, and the breeder did not let my friend pick a puppy - the breeder said that they pick for you and then, asked my friend almost no questions and simply said $2800! So you see, price doesn't mean everything. This breeder has a great repuation in the show world, but would you want to get a dog from someone who doesn't even ask you any questions and goes right to price? Of all the breeders I have spoken with, the breeder I chose knows as much or more about the breed, has been doing it for 20+ years, and came with great referrals. When I asked her why she charges so little, her comment was, "people from the midwest ask me why I charge so much!" So you see, price is not everything. The way a breeder cares for, loves, and knows their dogs is what matters. At least to me.

puppy prices

Scottie,

I dont want to say your friend is not telling you the truth, but he is def.wrong if he said the breeder didnt let him pick a puppy i know many people who have boxers from this breeder and they all picked their pupps themselves,my self included.
He is def known for show dogs but he is also known for healthy dogs and we all know the health probs of boxers.
When i purhased my fist puppy from him i did alot of research on breeders and when it came to it he was the best,so the way i look at it you get what you pay for and i have a fantastic fawn dog and have added a brindle bitch to my home.
as knowledge of boxers goes, he knows more than just about anyone in the boxer world. But i guess none of this matters as long as we are all happy with our boxers.
Good luck with you dog are you showing?

I believe we are talking about the same breeder. Though I will not mention any names (staying within BW rules ;)), he is probably the only one in this area that charges unreasonable amounts for his puppies AND does not practice what he preaches about what a good breeder should provide for a buyer. He must have known he had us when he charged us an extra hundred for the little bit of white on her face. Someone told me I should call him back and ask for a refund of that hundred because the white is almost gone :) . I learned my lesson. It's a shame that others still flock to him for that "designer label" kennel name. You can still get the same chance of good healthy boxers from a reputable breeder in this area for $1000.00.

im wondering, are you not happy with your puppy because it sounds that way.I guess everyone has a different experiance with shopping no matter what its for, just like restaurants oppinions differ.Like i said before as long as your happy with your puppy it doesnt matter where you got it.And you are correct about the designer name you should do your research dont just buy for the name.I did my research and found this breeder to be the best and i think you felt the same way i did or you wouldnt have spent the 100.00 for the white,or even wasted the time to go and see him.I hope you and your puppy are happy and most important healthy. Im not trying to upset anyone but i stand by the breeder of my kids because my experiance with the breeder was great and he has been there for any questions that i have had, i called him at 10:00 in the evening last summer because my pup was stung by a bee and had a terrible reaction he had me bring him in and gave him meds to relieve the reaction.
How many breeders will be there at 10:00pm to help you?
So to me its more than the name its the service after the sale.
Any way im just glad that we all love boxers no matter who the breeder.

I am bringing my first boxer pup home next weekend. I have been waiting several months for him. He is a flashy fawn male and was $1800 from a breeder in New Jersey. I felt very comfortable with the whole process and am looking forward to finally getting him.

My advice to anyone looking for a pup is simple, "be patient". If you are not comfortable with any part of the process then find another breeder. The breeder I am dealing with I met at a show. I feel this is probably the best way to find a breeder/pup. I was able to meet a few other people that had gotten pups from this breeder whom were quite pleased.

Yes, of course he is always there for those who buy show dogs. But with my experience (and I'm finding out that more people went through the same thing when purchasing a pet from him), a breeder who belittles someone and has no time for ANY questions, is not what one should look for when purchasing a pet. Yes, I did my research, and read his books, how impressive! I am VERY happy with my (designer kennel name) Boxer. I was not very happy with the treatment that my family and I received. After joining BW, was when I reallized that reputable breeders don't treat their puppy buyers in the manner in which I was treated. I shall refrain from going on, I do not wish to jeopardize my membership over this.
