Question about lump/bump on lip area

As a pup Cami went thru a bout of acne. We got that cleared up and it has been many months since we have noticed anything on her chin.

A few nights ago I noticed a hard small bump just at the corner of her bottom lip about where the larger teeth start. Upon inspection I thought that it was just an ingrown hair or a pimple. I got out my doggie surgical kit (just kidding), I did what I used to do with the acne and took a steralized needle and punctured it. I squeezed it slightly and a small amount of blood came out. I cleaned it off with peroxide. I did this again the following night. She was never the wiser as she was sleeping soundly both times.

So tonight I look again at the bump and it seems as if nothing has changed. It does not appear to be puss filled, it is not swollen and doesn't seem to bother her.

Hubby and I are trying to decide if a vet visit is in order, (we both tend to be overly cautious when it comes to her). If there is no change for the better or worse is a week too long to give this to see if anything changes?

We are trying to be good parents but again not trying to drive the vet crazy. I almost think that they feel as if we are often a little too paranoid. Which really doesn't bother me come to think of it.

Opinions anyone??? Or should I just get a vet appointment tomorrow and set my mind at ease?

You sound just like me with being overcautious with your furry kids. Not sure how to reply on this one, but I would wait a couple of days as she does not seem to be bothered by it, and neither do you. I have often rushed my boxers to the vet, only to be giggled at by the vet that once again, I have seriously overreated for either whitegums, pimple, ect. (We have a good relationship! My vet bills were enormous!) Obvioulsy, if it is not going away or is starting to irritate her, then it needs to be attended too. good luck.

Has she ever had a histiocytoma? They tend to appear mostly on the head & neck, but can also appear on the feet, etc. They appear quickly and grow quickly too. Both of our boys had them recently - Tango's (Mastiff) was on his neck just above his right shoulder and Dempsey's (Boxer) was on his left thigh. They grew to about the size of a nickel, appeared to burst, then scabbed over and resolved. There was hair loss where they appeared, once the scab fell off, the hair grew back in and looking at them now you'd never know they had them. The vet had us clean the histiocytoma daily with diluted rubbing alcohol and then told us to use OTC antibiotic ointment on it (something like a Neosporin, generic/store brand is fine to use). There have been some threads here on Boxerworld recently about histiocytoma, appears Betadine scrub works well for them too. Hope this helps~
