I really think it is all in the training because we have baby gates in my house that neigther one of my boxers has ever tried to jump.
One of the baby gate I have is no more than 2' tall. The boxers could probably step over it, but they never have. Huh, go figure. :)

Pimp was always climbing our 4 ft fence when he was 10 weeks. The little bugger got over on more than a couple occasions, but he was always trying to get to the neighborts becasue he loves them!!! He still jumps at it but never tries to climb over.

Tucker will climb anything! I don't think there's a chain link fence tall enough to hold him. We had to modify ours with a little ledge so that he couldn't get over the top of it. I agree with everyone else...the only way to ensure that your baby doesn't jump or climb the a fence is to watch him whenever he's outside.

I'm glad you asked this. I'm in the EXACT same situation (a little eerie). Just like you, I'm 23 and the house I'm moving into only has a 4ft. chain link fence. Beau has never been a jumper, but then again, he's never had the opportunity to jump a fence. I don't have a lot of money, either. The solution I came to is this: the neighbors behind me and on my left side have tall shrubs lining the fence, so I don't think Beau could clear them. The side yard faces the front of the house and the street, so I'm putting up a 6' wooden fence. The gate to the yard faces another street (it's a corner lot), so I'm going to fence in that part of the fence, too. This will only be about 30ft. of fencing, but I have to install a gate, too. I know this probably won't help you, but it's the best I could come up with in my situation. Since your boxer is still young, I would just focus on training. Hopefully, he will learn that jumping the fence is not acceptable behavior and you won't have to worry about it. I would NEVER leave him outside unattended, though. My boys won't be outside without me unless I'm cooking (my kitchen window overlooks the backyard). I'm not going to take the chance of having anything happen to them. Good luck!

We have 6' tall privacy fences all around, but we don't leave Sam outside alone - ever. Too many bad things could happen - even in our good neighborhood.

My chain link fence is 4ft high all around..neither of mine have ever gone over it..like everyone else said if you don't make it a big deal then they won't..I also have a baby gate and they have never went over it either...Bubba however went under the fence a couple of times :o I had that fixed and no more problems...

Belle's cleared our 6' wooden privacy fence twice. I think those were times when she was really anxious though. The first was the day we adopted her and had no idea she'd be able to jump the fence. She was out by ourself (with Bruno inside because we were just getting them used to each other). Luckily, we split up to canvas the neighborhood and DH found her a few blocks over. Had to carry her home... wasn't fun at all.

The other time she jumped was when we put her outside (with Bruno) because my 3-year-old nephew was meeting the dogs for the first time and was really freaked out.

So far, I've never seen her try and jump any other times. Still don't trust her to be out by herself, mind you. But there are times when I'll just watch from the window to makes sure she's not getting into any trouble.

I have a chain link fence and I know that if they want to jump it they could. but I stay outside with them and have taught them from the start not to jump on the fence so they really don't bother with it. I think it takes time to teach them. but I would never totally trust them.:)
My thoughts exactly. They could jump my fence with no problem at all, and Roxy has, to tree a neighbor's cat. So, for really quick potty breaks, I use a tie-out. I hate it and I know it's not the safest, but I only use it while I'm watching for a 5 minute or less potty break. If they are going to be loose in the yard, I am back there with them. I will sit there with them, throwing the world's nastiest tennis ball.

We have a 4 ft chain length fence and 4 boxers. Our new little girl who is 13wks can'tjump the fence, our next girl roxy Balboa who is fixing to turn 2 can't jump the fence, our Boy Mahamoud ali who is fixing to turn 3 can't jump the fence but our angel girl who is 3 and is very little weighs around 48 lbs and is alot shorter than the other to older ones CAN JUMP the fence. she jumps it after rabbits but never runs off. We have to holler and she comes right back but for some reason she stands there and whines wanting us to pick her back up over the fence. She can jump out but never can jump back in.lol MelissW

We have a 4 ft wood fence and Cisco has never tried to jump it.
My last boxer did though.
