Well my wife and I have purchased our second boxer. She is currently 6 weeks old and is cute as can be!!! I was so impressed with her appearance!!! It was so hard having to leave her with the owner....I wanted to take her home and just play and cuddle with her!!!! I will not be getting her until the 2nd or 3rd week of November. Her ears will be cropped this week hopefully by a well known doctor.

My question to the boxerworld community is the following. As you may know from my other post I have a female (Kasie) who is 3 years old, she is fixed, very friendly, has been around dogs her whole life!!! I am wanting to know what things my wife and I can do when they finally start to live together to help make them great "buddies". What things should I do to make sure Kasie feels good about the new arrival? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Congratulations on your new addition!! I am also new to the two boxer home, but I have had lots of good advice from the kind folks here!

I think the best thing is to remember to not treat Kasie any differently. The puppy will be trying to steal the show and you have to let Kasie know that she's still your girl too!! Get baby lots of toys so that she isn't CONSTANTLY crawling on Kasie for playtime! Kasie is likely to be a little jealous at first, but with enough attention and love she will adjust to having a new little sis!

My first post here so hope I don't mess up but had to reply as I have been there twice! cool2icon As was said just be sure Kasie gets as much, if not more, attention as she is used to. Make sure she has her special one on one time with you so she knows she is not being replaced. lovicon She will LOVE having a playmate soon enough and you won't belive what a help having two to run each other's energy off is! Enjoy your babies. I know you will. How on earth do you stand having to wait so long for her? I would go nuts!! foolicon

Congrats on your new puppy. I cannot wait to see pictures. When you first bring your baby home just be sure to allow a place that both dogs can go so if they are feeling overwhelmed they can have a place to relax. Enjoy your puppy kisses!!! :D

Diva was just over 3 years old when I introduced Monty into the home. I was a little nervous at first because Diva has always been a one to one dog with me only, so I wasn't sure how she might react. Well, I needn't have worried as she gets along really well with him. I am always very conscious of the fact that Diva gets first pet, her food gets put down first and then Monty's and then a door closed between them - I have seen some nasty incidents between dogs over food, Diva gets in the car first etc etc.

At the beginning it was hard work, but once Monty got into the routine it was fine. Monty is a pushy boy, so we still have growling and mouthing on occasion but it is lessening.

Advantages are they wear each other out and the fun and mischief just doubles!!
