Hi everyone,

Our pup Roscoe is 10 weeks. We brought him home three weeks ago and housetraining seemed to be going well, at least heading in the right direction. But the past few days he has been peeing constantly. Sometimes he pees while he's in the sit position, so I don't even see it coming. Once in awhile he goes to the door (we have a bell hanging from the door which has worked really well for our other boxers). And we take him out to his spot in the yard, make a big deal and give him a treat. He pees everythime he goes out, but he'll go again 15 minutes later in the house. The other day he peed 5 times in a 45 min period when I was on the phone! And of course we automatically take him out if is sniffing, just woke up from a nap or just ate. What really gets me is he is sleeping through the night with no accidents, and in the evening when my husband and I are both sitting in the living room with him... he is generally better. Also, our daughters left for summer camp on Sunday so during the day it's just me and him. So basically I'm not sure if he's just acting out when we can't give him constant attention. I'm with him all day, but I'm doing housework and not giving him 100% attention. I thought he may have a UTI, but then he is so much better in the evening and at night. That doesn't seem to add up. He's doing well otherwise, I'm just spot cleaning all day long!!

Try limiting his water? I only give water to my pup when he hasn't had some in a while, so I know when he needs to pee (which is usually 10-20 minutes later for him). Be sure that you really mask the scent with an enzyme cleaner as well so they don't pick up the smell of their pee in the house and want to pee there again, Simple Solutions is great and it's cheaper than Nature's Miracle.

Everyone honestly has different ways of house training, it's just consistency and your own thing since you know your puppy the best, good luck!

You're probably better able to watch him during this time.

Dogs don't do stuff out of spite. They aren't capable of empathy--putting themselves in your place and imagining how you would feel if they did something. He just has to pee so he does it.

That's your problem right there! You aren't paying enough attention. At 10 weeks old, he doesn't have the bladder control to hold his urine very long. It is like a human child learning to use the toilet. By the time they realize they have to go, they REALLY have to go--right then. If you can't supervise him constantly, put him in his crate. He'll be less likely to pee in there. Then when you are done mopping or folding the laundry take him outside to pee. When you have free time let him loose in the house where you can watch him. If you need to answer the phone or go to the bathroom yourself, pop him back in the crate.

Keep on with the training and positive reinforcement, he will get there! When Boris was younger, I thought it would never end with the pee. He clicked with 'the other' brilliantly almost straight away but the pee... it felt like he was constantly peeing and didn't care where!! To add insult to injury, it started my cat off peeing inside the dining room which I think was connected to Boris peeing there too!

I think the enzyme based cleaner is a must, you need to ensure all traces of the smell is eradicated. Then, you just have to keep with the pee breaks, every 15 mins if necessary. Boris used to know that he should pee outside, so did it on cue to his "wee wees" instruction...and then would come back in and pee 10 mins later on the carpet. Oh and then when we thought we made headway, he took to peeing on the kitchen floor right next to the dog flap because he didn't like the cold/dark/rain lol. He doesn't do any of that inside now... one day it just clicked like everyone told me it would (I must admit I got sick of hearing that and thought it just wasn't happening for Boris!)

He will get there, as he grows so does his bladder and his control/realisation he has to pee, it just takes time and lots of watching and praise! :)
