I have some questions about our new puppy and wanted some opinions. I will start at the very beginning. We already had a 1 1/2 yr old male. He liked being around other dogs so we thought we would get him a companion. I was set on the colors i wanted and after about 3 months I found exactly what I was looking for. This is where the story starts. Made arrangements with the the lady to see the puppy, she was about 3 hrs from my house. She wanted to deliver and pretty much refused that I comre to her house. I told her that I wanted to see the parents and housing. She told me that was not how she done bussiness and I told her that I would look for another puppy. later she called back andsaid to come on down they would make an exception. We get there and I was blown away. I never what a puppy mill was, well I do now. She had 25 females and 12 male boxers. I will say conditions were a little better than what i have seen on the net. I was really pissed when we went into the barn. I see why she didnt want me there. Well she brings the puppy out and it was tiny. 2 were left in the litter and the male was twice the size. The little puppy was exactly what I wanted just real skinny and small. The lady said the other puppies did not let her feed as much that is why she was so small. I felt sorry for her so dicided to take her home. I figured i could fatten her up. Well we get her home at 1am and she has the runs really bad. So the next morning I go to take her to my vet. He runs some test and sas she has coccidious, this is what is causing the runs(said the parasite came from the puppy mill, possible poor sanitation or overcrowding). He gives her some meds. This was on a tuesday. Thursday night she was really sick. She was throwing up could not drink at all with out throwing up and was really weak. She would not eat at all. Friday morning I called the vet to get her in and they would not see her. Said they were to busy, that they could see her tuesday. I called around and found a vet that would see her. He gave a shot for the throwing up and said that she was dehydrated. When he checked her fecal sample sad she had coccidious real bad. Gave her albon.(this is where i kinda really wish i hadnt met this guy.) After she started to recover he told me to only feed her about a 1/3-1/2 cup a DAY. A day later she started to act normal and was energetic, but she was looking for food all day long. After a couple of days I called the vet and told she should be fed more and he told me not to because not only am I feeding her but the parasite also. So after almost 3 weeks of his care and albon treatment, she looked worst than when i got and was starving. I took her back to him on the 3 week check up and my 11 week old puppy weighed 10#'s 1 ounce and looked horrible. She also had the parasite worse than ever. I decided this was enough and decided to try another vet. After the new vet examined her he said this other guy should not be a vet. He said he was prescibing enough albon for 2# puppy and no where enough food either. So we started another 3 weeks of albon and feeding a whole lot more. She went from 10#'s to 17#'s in a week. She turned 4 months old today and weighs 23#'s. She is still developing some muscle but looks a lot better. Before you could see every bone in her body. So after this long post I was wondering if this will stunt her growth for ever. She is still pretty small for 4 months old. I have never delt with any thing like this. Some say she will catch up, others say she will just be a real small dog. Her dad(if really him) was the best looking boxer I have ever seen. dad was about 85#'s momma was about 65. I think we might be over the coccidious we will find out monday. Well thinks for reading my long post and any info would be appreciated.
