Ok... Here is the deal.

Me and My fiance are getting married April 24th. We are leaving the 26 for a week and a half on our honeymoon. Our new house with a nice big hard will be finished and close on March 20th.

She has never had a dog (father was illergic to pet hair).. I have allways had big dogs growing up. We were going to wait till after we got settled in the house and after the honeymoon. So we kind of just pop our head into the pet stores everyonce and a while with no intention to buy. Seen many boxers and never had the urge to get one now. Until Sunday, this little girl (born 12/15/03) just gourgous. She is APR registered. I have never heard of this, I have only heard of (AKC and ACA). My question for you is, should we wait, find a breader instead. How is the APR registry compared?

They had all her papers and health tests right there.

Im the one wanting to wait, but my fiance is in love with this dog. She has gone back to the pet store 3 times.

Please, please, please stop! Read through the "Choosing a Breeder" forum. Do not buy a puppy from pet store. No matter what they tell you, puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills. That means the parents are kept in horrible conditions and the puppies are at great risk of serious health and behavior problems. I know it's really easy to fall into the trap of wanting to save that one sweet puppy that you've seen, but everytime you pay money to an establishment like that, you are supporting the "business" that allows dogs to be abused, mistreated, and neglected.

It does take time to find a good breeder who has done all of the important health testing and carefully planned the breeding, but it is truly worth the wait because it gives you a much better chance of having a healthy, happy, well-adjusted pet for many years. You will have your puppy for many, many years...take the time to make the right choice. Also note that you need to see results of health tests on the parents - there are specific tests that should be done and a good breeder will give you the results of the test. This is not the same as a vet check-up. You'll find details in "choosing a breeder."

I also agree with you that you should wait until after your wedding and honeymoon before getting a puppy. Having just gotten married a few months ago myself, I know how much time, energy, and stress is involved in that. It's not really fair to bring a puppy into your home during such a chaotic time, and it would be hard on the puppy to have you leave for your honeymoon just as the puppy is getting settled into your home.

I don't mean to sound like a downer. I do undestand how excited you are and I think it's great that you want to get a puppy when you have your house and get married. Just don't rush into it and make a decision you will regret. It's worth the time to do it right.

Thank you for the advice.... Like I said before we where never really serious about buying one before the wedding. I have not started looking for a local breeder yet because we were not ready yet. We are propally pretty close so I could start looking now.

Everything you said about the pet store I have heard before.

Thank you for advice. I will be cruising this site more ( i just found it last night before bed) to help me get more and more information.

I would encourage you to go ahead and start looking for a good breeder now if you are hoping to get a puppy after your wedding in the spring. Many good breeders have waiting lists and will have homes selected before the puppies are even born. Your local boxer club would be a good place to start. Good luck!

Oh my, with everything that I have been through with my boy my suggestion would be to find a good breeder, wait on a wonderful puppy and maybe even save money when you by it and definitely in the long run with fewer vet bills:) Make sure the parents have the appropriate testing, ask to make sure the parents haven't had any problems with demodex mange. Pet store puppies are bred by people who could care less what happens to the pups after they are born, they only breed dogs to make a profit. They are overpriced, for about the same or maybe even less you can get a quality puppy with a genetic health guarantee that is very important. Believe me you don't want allergies, demodex and hives every other month, I know I'm going through that. I also saw where someone just found out their young boxer has maybe six months left to live from a heart condition that is hereditary. Wouldn't you hate to get a dog and become attached to it and in a few years find out it's going to leave you? Please take the time and find the good breeder, it's definitely worth the wait and you'll have your sweet little puppy before you know it! Good luck;)

My girl just thinks she wont ever find anohter boxer as cute. Which is hard to belive eh..LOL. they are all so cute!

Here's a list of some upcoming dog shows in Florida (you'll have a better idea than I which are near you)

I'd scan for nearby locations, and dates, then click on the show name (underlined) in the left column. Obviously you are looking for all breed shows, so the Poodle Clubs and terrier club shows won't be much use, nor will the training club shows which are for obedience (may be fun, though!)

Once you click on that, you'll bring up a page which has the details of where the show is held. To the left will be more options to check out.

Judging Panel = list of judges by breed -- this is so potential exhibitors can decide if they want to enter

Premium list = this tells potential exhibitors what the prizes are, gives details on location, lodging, etc.

Judging program = tells how many dogs of each breed actually entered the show, and in which ring and at what time they will be shown. This will be the most helpful information for you, but usually is only published in a week to 10 days before the show in question.

Generally boxers are on at 8 or 8:30 or 9 am, which means an early day if you're going to check them out.
