Punchie's trip to the vet - Shameful

For the most part, Punchinella is a well-behaved, respectable representative of the Boxer breed. Except at the vet. Good gracious, she puts on a show.

First they put her on the lift table to weigh her and do the exam. As soon as she's on there she starts shaking like a leaf. I try to soothe her and let the Dr. check her out. He checks her ears and she yelps. He checks her teeth and gums, she yelps. He checks her booty, more yelping. He gives her shots and she doesn't seem to really notice.

Oh, but then comes the time to clip her nails. Good grief, you'd think they were ripping them out at the roots the way she carried on. She went from yelping, to full on screaming. And I do mean screaming. I had to hold her head, vet tech held back half, and poor vet had to do some serious maneuvering to clip the little things. I've never heard such carrying on. By this point, she's had quite enough. However, I had decided to take the plunge and have her microchipped. He quickly did the insertion. More tortured yelping.

Oh, and when they sprayed the influenza/kennel cough spray into her nose, she shook her head so hard that I ended up wearing most of it. Same thing for the ear drops to remove wax.

When he was done, he gave her a doggy biscuit. She puts it in her mouth, then promptly spits it out at him. I swear she must've thought after all that ordeal we were trying to poison her  Silly, pitiful rotten little thing.

On the bright side, she got a clean bill of health! :)

Haha, boy does she sound like a bit of a handful. Ace's only problem is that he can't sit still for longer than 3 seconds, he just wants to sniff every animals butt and recieve and give lots of lovings to ANYONE who happens to walk by.

Hahaha! Abbey is actually pretty good at the vet, but our cats are terrible! I always saying, "they really are nice!" Thinking this vet totally doesn't believe me as they are making horrible noises and trying to claw her eyes out usually getting me in the process.

Sounds like you have a little drama queen on your hands! Poor girl had to go through all that pain and suffering ;) I did have to laugh a little... you painted the picture great... I could see it all happening :)

Maybe she thought the louder she protests the more guilty you would feel for taking her there in the first place. I'm sure there were visions of goodies and lovin' floating through her head! Glad to hear after all that nonsense that she got a clean bill of health!

I am just so glad to hear a story like this as I thought our Max was the only dog who acts as though he is going to his death at the vet..loves every one he meets..loves the attention in the waiting room, but as soon as he hits the exam room..Game On..he turns into a dog I don't know.

Your story is so funny, I have mental pictures of this and its me laugh!!!! I was at the vets office yesterday and an older boxer was coming out after having some cysts removed, she had a e-collar on and was just yelping and carring on somthing awful so i asked what was wrong with her, was she hurt? They all, onwer included just laughed and said no she does that everytime they have to put an e-collar on her. your girl must be a long lost relative of this boxer. hehehe
I am glad she came out of this experience with a clean bil of health.

dynamite throws a fit with the nails too, the last time it was so traumatic for her she peed and pooped on the table!!! i was so embarressed I have resorted to doing it at home myself with the dremmel, the only problem is getting my husband to help me by holding her. needless to say her nails are always overdue for a trim because its such an ordeal for the both of us!

That is such a cute story. What torture you put her through!! I don't know if this helps but to get Tyson used to trimming his nails (I use a dremel at home) after every 2 nails, he gets a small treat. He will sit still for me no problem. Glad she got a clean bill of health after all she had to go through :D

This is sooooo Punchie. I will sometimes sneak up on her while she is sleeping and quickly clip one, but I can only get one in at a time before the little devil wakes up. At some point, I'll have to get the camcorder out and record her antics during a nail clipping. It usually ends with me and her in a wrestling match, both exhausted when it's over and maybe one clipped nail to show for our trouble

I've tried enticing her with treats, but it's never really worked. I'll have to try again with something extra super yummy.
