Gus loves to eat tree limbs that fall on the ground, problem is after a while he starts to puke tree bark. I have had him to the vet which tells me he is allergic to something. We have been going through a spell where he would puke every night. We switched him to non allergenic dog food and he would do go but as soon as we would switch back it would start backup. I think I have finally found a dog food he can hold down. He can't have any toys because he shreds them and detroys them quicker then I can blink. I feed him twice a day, 3 cups in the morning and 3 cups in the afternoon but he won't puke till in the middle night. Does anyone else have problems with their boxers puking or eating sticks. How to I make him feel better and gain weight. He is 2 and weights 56lbs but you can see his ribs. Is this normal?

Harley used to eat sticks all the time (small ones, though). He'd even dig up the tree roots for a quick snack.
I'd watch it carefully, though. A friend's boxer died after eating pine needles due to obstruction. If your vet is sure it's allergies (has an xray been done?), try to limit anything else from being swallowed until his belly calms down.

Butler is 6 and still eats sticks. But we've never had any vomiting. If Harley is vomiting bile, or a frothy mucousy(sp) liquid, it could be allergies. Butler does this, too. I've seen Butler vomit the yellow bile if his stomach is empty, but with you feeding Harley 3 cups 2xday, I wouldn't think his stomach would be empty.
He could be just have reactions to the pollen which is horrible this year. Did your vet not mention giving him something for allergies since he thinks that may be the cause? You can try benadryl, but it knocks Butler out. He's usually on Hydroxyzine 2xday for 3-4 months each year.

What food are you feeding him? Six cups a day is quite a lot of food. Roxy gets two cups plus some meat and Buster gets 3 cups plus meat. They also get snacks. The cheaper quality the food, the more you have to feed and also the more likely they will have a reaction to some of the ugly stuff in the food. There are a lot of toys out there made out of hard rubber (feels almost like tire it is so hard) that you can buy that he probably can't destroy, or at least for a while. You might check you local pet store and ask about toys that are made for large dogs.
Gus most of the time will just puke up his dog food but knock on wood he has not done that since we switched. The only two times he has puked up tree bark it has been clear liquid and tiny tree bark (sticks). We were feeding him Nitro which was mostly chicken and after this last giant bag of non allergenic dog food we started feeding him Beneful (beef and rice) and he has kept it down and seems to love it. The vet did xray his stomach to make sure he did not eat another sock that was stuck and he was good to go. Gus eats or tears up anything that gets in the back yard. He has popped so many soccer balls, shredded baseballs and destroyed tennis balls. He loves to play but ends up destroying everything. We use to give him the tug ropes but he would shred them so the vet said not to give them to him for fear the string would get stuck in his stomach and cause major damage. He also gets sick when he chews on a rawhide bone. He will eat one and then get sick at night. What is weird is that he hardly ever gets sick right after eating it is always in the middle of the night. The vet said to give him pepsid AC when his stomach is grurgling but other then that nothing else.
Thanks for all the advice, I love Gus so much I just want to make sure that he is ok. If he starts getting sick after the next month on this dog food I will break down and have him tested for allergies. So far so good.

Sugguestion check out the feeding forums. There is a web site at the top that talks about the best food to feed. I am afraid food could be your problem. Check out what rating your food is and what is in it>

Please go to dogfoodanalysis.com and review the food. Bad food is a huge cause of health related problems. I know a lot of people don't want to spend the extra money on better quality pet food, but the better quality you don't feed near as much and you also save money in the long run on vet bills due to health problems from the food. Where you are feeding 6 cups a day it would probably be more like 3 with a better quality food. You can look up the food you are feeding on that site and see what nasties are in it and why it is not recommended.

IMHO, Beneful is not a very good food. It is ranked 1 star on dogfoodanalysis.com, and doesn't have much beef or rice, but does seem to have a lot of corn. If you want to try a beef based food, Innova EVO Red Meat (6 stars but also has lamb), Nature' Variety Prairie Beef Meal and Barley (5 stars) or Solid Gold Mmillenia (4 stars) probably are much better choices.
You could get him a big raw bone to enjoy in the back yard. Not only would it be fun for him, his back teeth would get a good cleaning.
My Mali throws up if she gets too much food, and it usually happens in the middle of the night, right on the light beige carpet. :( Once, she woke me up in the middle of the night, fussing to go out, and threw up in the grass. Good Mali, but my poor baby girl was throwing up on the lawn.
My two get 3 cups/day, in two meals, and Oscar is about your dog's size, 55 pounds, however, this is SO variable among individual dogs, that you need to figure what works for dog. I agree with kayboxer, 6 cups/day seems like a lot, which may be,at least in part, why he is throwing up. You could try cutting back, at least a little, keep an eye on his weight, and see what happens.
