Reba is starting to get protective. She barks low and mean sounding now when someone comes to the door. Today she scared a off a door to door salesman.

A guy trying to sell home improvements came to the door. Reba lets out this Rottweiler bark and when I answered the door, the guy had backed halfway up the front walk. He did not want to take no for an answer, so I kinda had to be rude and just say NO THANKS, and close the door.

A few minutes later, Reba rang her bell and DH took her out the side door. He very proudly returned to the house a few minutes later announcing that the first thing Reba did was run out front and make sure the guy had left.

Way to go Reba!

Oh, door to door salespeople, UGH! We have college students coming by here all the time saying they are trying to raise up enough money to go on a trip and will we buy magazines, books, etc ... I always make Mark answer the door and when he says no, the guy will ALWAYS ask if there is anyone else in the house (usually I am within plain site)! They just don't know how to take 'NO' for an answer!

Instead of Asia being a watch/guard dog during these situations, she will be at the door jumping to see who is there, and if we can tell they like dogs and they say it's okay, we'll open the door and then they get the pleasure of Boxer slobbers ...

Yeah, I don't like salesman coming to my door either. They definately back up when they see all four of my gang jumping and having a fit at the front door. I end up having to go out the garage to find out what they want.

Since we are on the subject what is it with UPS, FedEx, and USPS ringing the doorbell when leaving a package at the front door...Argh! All dogs go charging the front door when they hear the bell. It can get quite nasty.

I kinda wish Roxy would give a little "woof" when someone comes to the door, she just backs up and lets Trooper do all the barking, and if you look in my gallery you can see that he does not look real menacing! ;)

Harley loves the fed-ex lady. I usually have him out for a walk when she comes. I don't think it's as much her as her truck though. He used to be afraid of large trucks so I let him sniff them. Now he wants to see whats in them.

I love it when the dogs bark like crazy at sales people at the door. I always have the screen door locked but I open the front door and over the dogs barking I say sorry can't hear you thanks anyways. The sales people just look at me wierd and walk away. But at least it keeps me from having to say no over and over again. :)

sounds mean, but really a doll baby

Reba may sound like a watch dog, but I know if she got out, she would kidney bean and jump up and lick the salesman to death.

But she sounds mean enough to scare them off.

I love that she doesn't bark at the door.

Yep, me too :) I don't mind having a dog that will bark once or twice if someone knocks on the door, but I won't tolerate my dogs being so badly behaved as to continue barking or growling after I have acknowledged their 'alert'. My dog is not the 'leader' and while it is fine for him to alert me to the presence of an 'outsider' (as if the doorbell didn't do that LOL), that is as far as his responsibility goes. Answering the door and deciding whether the person I find there is friend or foe, and how to deal with them is my job alone.

Mia the boston will bark like mad, but Rocky only gives one or two barks...then comes the boxer stare! Our front door has a large stined glass panel and Rocky will stand up and stare out the door. This usually has people scurrying down the steps! One of my 12 yr old's friends will press his face to the glass and making Rocky wiggle like mad! I know when approaching if it if a friend or not by the wiggle!
