I paid $1400 from a very reputble breeder...but thats in Canadian money.
From what i know you should be looking at anywhere between 800 and 1200.US
This price may seem high but when you get them from a breeder....they do a lot of health testing on the parents and usually most breeders offer guarantees on the pups health. Mine gave me 3 years...and we still have an ongoing relationship..She answers any quastions i might have as well as gives me great advice.
Nina also came to us crate trained and was leash trained as well, as well as she was spayed....she was a bit over 12 weeks.....and has been an amzing addition.

Have you thought of a rescue? I actually bought my pup for $400-$500, but once I familiarized myself with this site, I wish that I had done some research on Boxer Rescue. Although I wouldn't give Chili up to save my life, I wish I could open my home to more. Here's a website that may help you.

I bought Muggs from a breeder. Both his parents were champion show dogs and we only paid $350.00. Why not a rescue dog. THey make the best campanions and they are not as expensive. Plus you are giving a baby a home that doesn't have one. Not to pressure you or anything. You should do what is best for you.

if you are set on a puppy, even if he isn't going to be a showpup, a good reputable breeder is the best place to look. This way, you are ensuring health, and you know your pup is going to be one good looking boxer! :) Pet pups here in CA start around $800 and can go up to $1000+. Show potential pups, sometimes higher (not always). But if you are not dead set on a puppy, definately consider rescue.. or even sometimes breeders will need to home older pups that didn't quite turn out to be show dogs. Good luck in your search. Its great that you are doing as much research as possible to see if a boxer is the right fit. ;)

Boxer Insane
Yikes...I don't think I could ever fork over $800 for a dog. There are way too many waiting at adoption rescues. They usually only charge about $300 here and that includes spay/neuter and vaccinations. I got Beau for free from a breeder due to family illness, but I have looked in the paper here. They are usually from $300-400. The price goes down as they get older (and so do household potty accidents). Happy puppy hunting!

Seriously, how much a puppy costs depends greatly on the area you live in. Differentials can be huge.

Whatever the going rate in your area, I would strongly urge you to buy your puppy from a reputable breeder, preferably one that shows their dogs (you want a boxer that looks and behaves as a boxer should), but definitely from one who does proper health screening for gentically inheritable disorders. In the case of the boxer, the parents must be screened for hip dysplasia and for the heart conditions aortic stenosis and boxer cardiomyopathy. Those, sadly, are conditions common to the breed and will impact severely on the quality of life of your pup should it inherit them.

Here is a link to an extremely useful site that lists genetic conditions common to many breeds (so you can also read up on what labs and rotties are prone to and should be screened for - you need to scroll down to dog breeds and select from there): http://www.upei.ca/~cidd/intro.htm

And here is a link to the American Boxer Club's recommendations for health screening of breeding boxers: http://americanboxerclub.org/health-screening.html
Any good breeder should be doing all of these tests, should be able to provide you with hard copies of the (satisfactory) results for both parents, and should be prepared to offer you a minimum of a year's guarantee against genetic health problems (preferably 2 or 3 years).

Do not look for a pup in the newspaper.. one of the worst places to start a puppy search. Although $800 may sound like a lot... you are getting a pup whose parents have been health tested, and most likely proven in the showring too. Pups advertised in the paper are Backyard Breeder pups.. these people, though some may have good intentions (just unknowning), are breeding dogs w/out any knowledge of genentic health testing, the boxer standard, and temperment testing. Many of these puppies end up in shelters and rescues because of sickness, ill tempers, or because a home was not screened properly.. and when a puppy grows a little too big, too rowdy, not as cute as before, they are dropped off at shelters/ rescues.. a very unfortunate situation. :( Do not support these people.

Just a word of caution. Please don't look for pricing on the local paper, even if they claim to be of a championship line... no reputable breeder who health tests their dogs will advertise in the newspaper... thoses are back yard breeders who do not do any health testing nor have considered if they are improving our wonderful boxer breed.

I recieved Muggsy from an ad in the newpaper and this man was wonderful. They had had all there shots and dewormers and both his dogs were great looking boxers. He had shown boxers for ever. I think not all people who advertise in the newspaper are bad just be careful.
