Possible broken foot.

Skully started limping about three weeks ago. He only does it when he first gets up from resting. I tried to get him into the vet earlier but they didn't have an opening and then we went out of town. So I take him in today and while the vet was examining his paw it had a popping on one of his inner toes. He has either broken it or dislocated one of the smaller bones. Opted not to x-ray as it doesn't matter if we know which it is the treatment is the same. Rest and pain management. Plus Skully would probably need to be sedated to be x-rayed. I want to avoid that. So now I have to try to keep him calm for a the very least the next week. I just looked at the vet and said "Calm? Right." I will try my best but I don't thing Skully has any idea what calm is.

I feel your pain. After Sammie's failed knee surgery our doc gave us the low down. Keep her calm. Thankfully he knew what "boxer calm" means. This was at our old house and we were able to make a barrier from our big kitchen and keep her from the adjoining living room. "Calm" in his eyes meant no couch jumping and no boxer burns but leash walking and roaming around a small space was "okay." She made it through that okay under strict supervision. Tough but manageable, sortof.

Seems if it was dislocated wouldn't it best best to reset it?

Oh poor Skully Sore foot and no fun for a while , I find with Roge that if everybody is clam so his he but the second that there is any sign of activity it's whoop whoop game on ..
sometimes I think that pain meds are a hinderence because pain is the body's way of making you rest whatever is injured and taking pain meds gives you the freedom to move the injured area but hey who wants to be in pain !!!

I hope Skully gets better soon. Yes keep calm is never gonna happen. When my girl is stuck in the house from her recovery, she gets real bored real fast. She starts getting crazy in here and driving me nuts.

Poor Baby! Do your best on keeping him calm and i 100% think you made the right decision.

Thankfully the pain meds seem to make Skully a bit sleepy, so keeping him calm is working for the most part. The only time he ran was first thing in the morning after the meds wore off and I let him out to potty. Apparently there was something out there that he thought needed chasing. But the rest of the day he has been taking it easy.
