I am wondering. Is Your Pup possessive about his food? I had other Dogs before and you could not get near there food without them trying to take your hand off. With Buddy (24weeks old/ got him at 7 weeks old) I don't have this problem at all. I can add or take some food wile he is eating. I put my hand in his bowle and he just eats around it. Also when you give him a snack (by hand). He never gets your fingers. If you hold a piece of hotdog, he just nibbles all around to where he can get it and gently tries to get it out. Is this a Boxer trait or am I just lucky. The only time he gets your fingers is when we are playing ruff. But ones you let him know, he is gentle again. I am happy that he is this way. Just wondering if this is a Boxer trait.

With mine it is the situation: I can take their bowl away..mess with their food while eating, no problem. they will even eat out of the same bowl. BUt you let Dukie think that Chloe might possibly get a treat that he doesn't, he turns into an aggressive brat. If she is so much as standing next to you in the kitchen when you are cooking he can start growling. We are working on this issue.

Make sure you keep doing that training with him. A Dog who is food possessive isn't a good thing. So as long as you keep doing what you are then your puppy will not become a guarder.

Lexie is so good about her food. We taught her from day one that its' ok for people to take food from bowl while she is eating. Our 3 year old daughter can reach in and talk her food and Lexie will just back up a few steps till the coast is clear and get right back to eating.

I take her milkbones right out of her mouth and she just looks at me like. That's mine treat can i have it back. It's so funny.

neither one of my girls are possesive, infact they eat right next to each other. my husbands parents dogs are very possesive though - they will bite off your hand if you try to touch them while they are eating.

Samson is not possessive at all. Delilah is possessive towards food but not with humans, just with Samson. He is too passive. If Delilah is in the same room as the food he will not eat. Delilah just gives him "the look."

BooBoo our older one is really not pocessive with his dinner or his treats, but whenever I give him and his little sister a pigs ear or a raw bone, he'll hog up both and turn very nasty on Courage if she even trys to come near to her own piece... we are trying to work on this now...

Brinkley will let you handle his food, but will warn other dogs to wait their turn. He will share but only one snoot in the bowl at a time. He will eat some then back off to share. Unless its something real good then there is nothing left to share.

Mine is a little possessive of food (and toys) around other dogs but definitely not around people.

You can take anything away from my guys, no food aggression at all. Ozzy too you hand him a treat and he will take it so gently, actually he sniffs it first, licks it then finally takes it. Its something that you have to do right away as a puppy, not to tease them but put your hand near etc.
