I haven't posted for a while. My baby Murphy has not been doing well. He has hip problems, arthritis and various other problems. He has not been able to keep food down for a while now and is deteriorating quickly. We have been in and out of the vet office often for several weeks now and have tried everything imaginable and all we can afford. His hips are causing him too much pain. He can no longer use his back right leg and with all of his weight to bear on the left leg, he is in quite a bit of pain. Short of a hip replacement in both hips, there is nothing left we can do for him. If only we had that kind of money. I would take him to Dallas to get it done in a heartbeat.

I am overwhemingly sad and sorry to say that we have made the decision to put him down tomorrow. I wanted to keep him at home for the weekend and spend some last moments with him. Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow as I have been dreading this day although I knew it would be coming soon. I will be happy that he will no longer be in pain though and that is what I am trying to focus on right now. I wanted to post this tonight because I know tomorrow I will not be in any shape to handle much of anything.

Please, please pray for me and my family. My other furbabies will be wondering what is going on. Thank you for your support.

Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear that you had to make this decision.

We had to make this very same decision almost a year ago (3.13.02) for our poodle Cocoa. I know exactly what you're going through right now. I remember the night before, we were all secretly hoping that he would pass on in his sleep so he could go peacefully in his own home. Unfortunately, that didn't happen so we went to the vet's next day as planned and ended his suffering. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about what he was going through in his last few days with us. I do however, take comfort in remember the fun and good times he brought us and also knowing that he's in a better place now. He's free from the pain and suffering, much like your Murphy will be.

Again, I do sincerely apologize for your heartbreaking loss. Just remember that Murphy will be free from the pain and he'll be able to romp and play with the other doggies at the Bridge.

I will pray for you and your family tonight and for nights to come because I remember what the days are like after something like this.

Sarah,
I am so very very sorry to hear about Murphy. I, too have taken this walk and I know exactly how you are feeling. But please take some comfort if at all possible in knowing that what you are doing to the ultimate act of love and that it takes a great deal of courage and stength to be able to so this for him. You are choosing to take the suffering upon yourself, so Murphy will not have any more pain or suffering and that comes straight from the heart. We also had our "last night" and ate cheetoes and strawberry ice cream and hot dogs and even took some pictures. This may sound a little odd but they are now the most cherished pictures I have of my Hannah. It took a long long time to be able to develope them, but I am so thankful I took them...they mean more to me than anything. I slept in my sleeping bag next to her bed and cuddled her all night. I will be praying for you and your family tonight and tomorrow. It will be so hard, but it will also be the most loving thing you can do for him. I'll be thinking of you Sarah. My heart is breaking right along with yours.

Godspeed sweet Murphy...your journey tomorrow will take you where there is no more pain, so more suffering and lots of beloved buddies to keep you company. Hannah will be there to greet you and make you welcome. PLease tell her that we love her. Deb

*tears* It's so hard for me to come to Community Support and read all the forums cuz I just cry...this must have been a very hard decision for you to make but I also agree that it is the best decision to end their pain and very unselfish on your part. I'm thinking of you and hoping that you two have a good night together tonight and I'll be praying for you tomorrow.

Sarah

We too walked this road two years ago. My heart goes out to you, as I know the pain and emotions you are feeling right now. We like you and others had our last night with Buddy, a very bittersweet kind of night, sharing his favorite human food "pizza" with good ol garlic bread and for dessert I fed him that much saught after chocolate, that I always told him was a no no. I like Deb had pictures taken as well, and they hold a very special place in his memory album. It took awhile for us to look at them, but when the time was right it was a warming feeling to look at them. They are extremly cherished and we have only ever shared them with one other person.

Please know you are doing what is only right for Murphy. It is the one final act of love we human companions can do for our furbabies. Murphy is able to journey to the Bridge having known love both in giving and receiving, and that is all our furbabies ever ask out of life. He will be met at the Bridge by many many wonderful Furbabies that have gone on before. I will light a candle to light Murphy's way tomorrow, and I am positive that My Buddy along with all of his BW friends now at the Bridge will be there to greet Murphy and take care of him until the day comes that you meet again.

Godspeed Murphy. angelicon Say hi to my Buddy when you get there, and tell him that his mom is proud of him and misses him very much.

Sarah--I am so sorry. But just know that you are doing what is best for your baby, Murphy. This act of love is exactly what Murphy wants right now. Murphy will not be too far away, he always be in your mind......

Dear Sarah, I am so sorry to read your post tonight. I can't even imagine how your heart must be breaking. And the other posters, as well, it's so sad. My thoughts and sympathies go out to you, and may you be at peace with your decision. I can tell how much you love your Murphy. He must be a very special boy. I know there is nothing I can say to make this any better, except that as time passes, you will remember only the good times with Murphy. I know you will hold your boy tight tonight, and whisper in his ear how much you love him, and that he will soon be able to run and play just like new with all the other furbabies at the Bridge. And some day you will see him again, and won't that be a joyous reunion because I believe God will have all our loved ones waiting for us in heaven, including the four-legged ones.
Best wishes,
Genie

Sarah, we do what we do, because we love them so.
Can there be any greater love than to release one so dear from pain and suffering, at our own emotional expense?
God bless, you are a very loving Mum.
