Please help

The thought of a dog being put down is so sad, but his owners are to blame.

I know this may sound horrible and some of you may freak out on me, but I am on the fence when it comes to breed specific legislation. I don't know much about it but I remember talk of banning some breeds here in the USA.
You hear all these horror stories of kids being mauled to death because of irresponsible owners of the more aggressive breeds. Mind you, I think these dogs are beautiful but whenever I find out that someone has bought one I question their intentions. Is it because they are "tough" or "bad a@#$" or because they are going to be a responsible owner and take the time to train these dogs. Not everyone, but we all know it takes a special person who is qualified in training to keep these breeds, not rnormal person who doesn't know what they are doing. And then you have the horrible dog fights. Unfortunately, this is why many people buy these dogs. If they are so dangerous to society and people are using them for the wrong intentions, why continue breeding and selling?
The other day I left a park because a guy came out of his car with his pitbull, offleash, into the field we were in. I grabbed my kids and Butch so fast and left. I was too terrifed to stay, that God forbid my children or my Butch would be a trigger. Butch weighs more than my 6 year of.
Like I said, I am on the fence and I don't know a whole lot about it but I do have very small children and I must say, I have a fear of these dogs. Perhaps someone can convince me either way.
Why would it be such a horrible thing to just discontinue a breed?

I guess I'll throw in my two cents too. I would have signed the tickets but I think you did what you thought was best and you are the one who went through the experience not us. I am very leary of large breed dogs with bad reputations. I know that is not the politically correct attitude here but I'm being honest. I have three young children and have been severely bitten myself trying to break up a dog fight. I just feel like anytime a dog shows aggression outside of just rough playing, they shouldn't be given multilple chances. God forbid it be a child next time. I hope everything works out and they learn from this and keep their dogs controlled when out in public

UhOh I might have made a mistake

I told you I contacted the individual. Well I also told some people at work who are involved with dogs and dog showing mastiffs and great danes. Anyways a lady at work who raises beautiful mastiffs with her husband works with the individual with the Prisa.

She went home and asked her husband if he knew the man. Sure enough he did and before ever hearing my story he tells her that the guy is jerk. She asks why and he states that the guy brags at work how vicious his Prisa is and that he's just waiting for someone to come and put their hand in his fence or break into his property!!!!!! He apperantely trains the Prisa to be vicious!!!!! OOOOPPPPPSSSS!!!!!! I might have made a very bad mistake!!!!! But that's all hersey when I called him he said he'd leash the dog in the park.........ggggggrrrrrr.........

Hey, ya know what? You did what you had to do and what you could live with. The rest is the Prisa owner's responsibility, and HE is the one that has to live with HIS decisions.

Pitbulls and agression

I am very leary of large breed dogs with bad reputations. I know that is not the politically correct attitude here but I'm being honest. I realize this is not really the original topic of this thread, but I really feel like, after many comments about Pitbulls and other "agressive" breeds, that I have to say something.
First Presas and Pitbulls actually have very different temperment standards.
It is acceptable, and expected, that Presas be protective and leary of strangers. They are also often dog aggressive.
Pitbulls, on the other hand, are commonly dog aggressive, but are extremely people friendly. Dog aggression and aggression towards people are two seperate and distinct issues that should not be confused when talking about breeds in which dog aggression is acceptable with in the breed standard.
That being said, the thing that should be feared are idiot owners. I personally don't really think any dogs should be off leash unless they are in a safely enclosed area. Pitbulls, Presas and any other number of breeds which commonly show dog aggression should also be kept out of dog parks, and I say this as a Pitbull owner.
The problem, wether one is talking about a Presa, a Pitbull or a Poodle is owners who either do not understand what kind of breed they are getting or who do not have enough respect for their own dogs and others to act responsibly and appropriately given the breed of dog they own.
Also, because it was mentionned in someone's post, Breed Specific Legislation does not work and to support it is to support something that could very likely be used to against your dog down the road.
Banning one particular breed of dog is not only extremely hard and costly to enforce, but does nothing other than punish responsible owners. The same people who want a dog for its tough image, and who do not invest in proper training and care, and who allow their dogs to run loose, will only turn to another breed........Boxers can look pretty tough.

Good luck next time you walk your babies in the park! If your dogs get attacked again mace the owner!Ha Ha Ha I hope he keeps his dog on a lead. don't want you or anyone else getting hurt.
