Don't worry. Neither have we. We usually go out to another patch of grass further out. There is a semi lake there and a lot of room to run. But, since they built the dog park, I'm not sure how they feel about having them run in the other areas of the park.

Hi all,

We cannot make it to the park early like you guys, we live about 40 minutes away.
But we will be there at 9-30 as I said earlier.

Porter hated to get his paws dirty until we went to the park. he was so peculiar about this. And then came the park. it is amazing how peer pressure works on dogs as well, not only did he go in the mud, he even went swimming in the ponds there, just to keep up with other dogs!!! That was the funniest thing of all.

I actually found it more fun to go to the park when it gets crowded, I thought people were much more friendly and chatty. But I can understand whre you're coming from. Ikaiaka should definitely stay home, since I saw some really big dogs there that would frighten him. There never were any aggressivity problems though, I have found that people are really careful and respectful of other dogs.

See yall there!

Poor Ikaika :( I guess I should explain (don't know if I have before). He was bitten when he was around a year old by a Chow in the complex and almost bitten by a Dalmation. Ever since then he has been slightly aggressive towards male dogs.

However, there is one (his name is Buddy) that lives in our complex (a Boxer rescue) that he just loves to death. I don't understand why (neither does Buddy's momma) they are the only ones they will get along with (of the same sex of course). We are amazed each time we run into each other.

Ikaika is really a sweet baby. Truley he is. I don't want anyone to get the impression that is is aggressive and mean in any way. I just thought I would explain a little. Thanks for understanding.

has he been around other male boxers and shown aggressiveness? i know zeus can get pretty rough, but i know he can also "play nice", depending on the other dog. i socialized him w/others (people and dogs) since he was about 4-5 months old. (i think that's when they say you can start socializing them). and i know he's especially funny about smaller dogs. i think he wonders if they're really a dog or just another squirrel.
but i don't mind him getting together w/ikaika to see how he interacts w/zeus. he's put up w/alot from the other dogs that we had before we moved back to houston. it's up to you....i will be there early enough, so he can get used to the surroundings anyway.

It depends on the dog. Buddy is a male dog and he just absolutely loves him. He acts like a puppy when they are together. But, then there was Yarin (also a Boxer in the complex) that Ikaika got aggressive everytime he came near us.

He knows how to behave with smaller dogs. My sister has a Chihuahua (about the same age as Ikaika) and he loves her to death (tho I don't think she feels the same ;) ).

He does well at Petsmart and Petco, pretty much minds his own business (or he is on his best behavior for a new toy).

I don't know if I want to risk it. I would hate to take him out there and then have to keep him in the truck until we are ready to go, if things don't work out.

When Mailani was about 4 months we went out to GB Park and socialized with a few dogs. There were Great Danes and Retrievers and more there. Ikaika got aggressive with the Danes. I think it had to do with protective issues with Mailani. I felt so bad after that. So we went to the other side of the park by our lonesome, to avoid any other issues.

He does so well with females and Buddy. It still amazes me about Buddy. I thought about trying to take Ikaika out without Mailani to the park. Do you all think that would help? I just don't want anyone to get hurt.

may be you should first get a feel for the park and its visitors before bringing Ikaika. See if you feel he will be safe there.

Do you think the park will be dried out enough by the 25th? With all the rain we had over the weekend, I know it gets pretty muddy.

i'm not sure if it will be dry enough , but i'm still going to go. i just went there this past saturday (before the weather turned bad that evening) and zeus and i both had a blast! i met three other guys who are there every saturday morning. there were six boxers total between the four of us. it was great! i think we were there for about 4 hours, and i still don't think zeus was ready to go. but as soon as we got home, he was passed out for the rest of the day. i let these guys know that we were all getting together on the 24th (next time i see them i will correct it...it's the 25th) so we could have a bigger turnout. but they were really interested to meet others.
but in all, zeus met brandy, rocky, and deuce (all fawns), a white puppy (i forget his name), and junior, a spectacular brindle.
but i'm going to start trying to go every saturday from now on as long as the weather is good.

I've seen some of these guys there too last month! The more the merrier!

Everytime Porter goes to the park, he gets very dirty, even when it's dry out, so mud or not, it doesn't really matter. Plus, you can shower your dog on your way out of the park so you don't ruin your car. As I mentionned before, it is a good idea to wear old clothes and bring some old towels.

It is a great park and Porter loves it, he passes out for the rest of the day as soon as we get home too.

Can't wait to see you all there!

Something has come up and I am going to try and make it. I worked last weekend Saturday and Sunday from 7a-5p. And will have to do it again this weekend. I am going to try and come in late on Sunday so I can be out at the park (which is really where I want to be).

I have been looking forward to this for a month. Wish me luck in trying to escape from an early morning work schedule.
