A Pit Bulls Christmas Carol

T'was the night before Christmas and the shelter is dark,

The whole place is silent, not even a bark.

The dogs are all locked in their pens for the night,

The staff has gone home and turned out the light.

As I lay my head on the cold concrete floor,

I fondly recall the home I had before.

The family I loved who loved me right back,

We'd share everything from secret to snack.

Things couldn't be better at this time last year,

But that has all changed and now I am here.

I won't see the tree, the lights or the snow,

I'm scared and alone, my spirits are low.

The others like me weren't put up for adoption,

A new family and home, for us aren't an option.

We've been locked up in cells as if we're all crooks,

We don't deserve homes because of our looks.

Not Diesel, or Bingo or the young one named Percy,

Deserve to be loved nor shown any mercy.

While families celebrate holiday cheer,

I know in my heart that my end is near.

The vet will arrive, the lights will go on,

By the time you awake, we all will be gone.

A stranger will come and take me away, I'll never wake to see another day.

As I close my eyes I'll shed you a tear,

The fond memories I'll always keep near.

The only thing I've ever asked of Santa Claus,

Is to stop all these unfair, ridiculous laws.

You said without me, your life was not full,

So why does it matter that I'm a "pit bull"?

In my dream Santa shouts when he's finished his deed,

*
"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...REGARDLESS OF BREED"!

Such a sad poem...such a sad reality! :( Thanks for sharing. I should forward this to our idiot polotician here who has successfully passed the pit bull ban!

What a sad poem. It brought me to tears just thinking of the stereotype this breed has recieved.

I am shock that someone left a bag of bullets in a park! I will say a prayer for those living there and hope that nobody, people or fur babies, gets hurt.

VENT (sorry, a bit long)

man.. i really do feel terribly for the pitbull breed. Though there are many who know the truth about pitbulls, the vast majority only hear the horror stories.. But i think what is the worst thing is that there are so many young people out there that want pitbulls only cuz they are "tough, and cool looking". (atleast in so-cal) They may not be out there fighting them, or breeding them to fight.. but they sure are breeding them... Its a quick buck to be made (pitbulls have large litters, and even just 2-300 per pup is a decent amount of money made.. esp. since barely any money is put into it). We always talk about how much BYB's hurt the boxer breed, i think byb-ing for pitbulls has really contributed to the downfall of the breed. This is why there are so many in shelters.. i mean, it seems like 75% of all shelter dogs are either pitbulls, or pitbull mixes. So many of the people that do own them just are not responsible enough to be pet owners.. they don't spay/neuter. ARGH.. it was even worse is that so many of the "top kennels" out there do not know a damn thing about health testing.. not breeding crypt/monorchid males.. not screening potential homes.. i have a good friend who is VERY into pits, and the all mighty Blue Pit... i've been to shows w/ him, i've seen all the sites that he visits.. infact, he has 3 pitbulls himself. (which he of course plans on breeding  not that his dogs are ugly or what not, but i know his bitch is not breed standard, she's VERY high-assed.. and the bitch's littermates has had many health problems) I've talked to him a little bit about breeding boxers.. which i am hoping he will learn from. And of all the "kennels" he's shown me, very few show, and only one actually does OFA testing for heart and hips. FORTUNATELY his most recent pup was from this kennel. He wants to show his new boy (which i actually volunteered to handle.. ), and i am hoping that since this kennel health tests, they require their get to be health tested too. i really believe that in order for the pitbull breed to shed itself of all the negative connotations that come w/ it, it needs a MUCH more responsible set of breeders and owners. JMHO.. im sorrry this has turned out so long.. its just a topic that really gets to me. :(

thanks for listening..

that is absolutely sickening!! i honestly have met several pitbulls and all of them have been sweet and have played nicely with my little jack russel/pug mix (this was before the boxers came along). the dogs you should REALLY watch out for are the jack russels and the dachsunds! i know that if they are in a loving family they are wonderful, but oh man! a badly socialized dachsund is a terror!! i did a speech on the uselessness of breed banning and the prejudice against pitbulls for my english class. there were lots of questions from the students and the teacher (who is terrified of all dogs), so hopefully i made a difference, lol!

this poem made me cry :( because our province is banning pitbulls :( And so i know that there are lots of dogs out there that are going to be feeling like this in the years to come
