Pig's Ears Poll

Never have. Just looked too gross to me.

Pigs ears just go too fast so we settle for rawhides and treats. Buckaroo has a kong but just isn't interested.

I used to give Pharaoh pig ears, he loved them, but then he started developing severe diarrhea. A trip to the vet confirmed my suspicions. There is some sort of bacteria in the ears themselves that is undigestable for dogs and slightly poisonous (hence the diarrhea). She told me to stop giving them to him and try compressed sterilized rawhide or nylabones instead. Ofcourse, he doesn't care much for either, so we got him these large rawhide frisbees (from petsmart) and give him one every once in a while. I take it away from him as soon as it's gnawed down to a size that he can fit into his mouth, and discard it.

I've given Wagner a pig's ear once, but that's it. He chewed some of it up and left it on the floor one night. The next day I came into the room and saw ants swarming it. I freaked out and threw it away. I do, however, give my dog marrow bones from the butcher counter at my supermarket. I boil them up for about 20 minutes and it keeps my boy busy for quite awhile. They are extremely gross to look at, but he loves them and so far, they seem pretty safe.

I use to give pig ears to Sidney until she chewed one really small and had it stuck in her throat......... I freaked an gave her the hymlick menover like you would to a chocking kid. She is allowed to have cow hooves......... They are a little stinky but, she likes them and i don't have to worry about her chocking on them.
Once in a while I will give her a cow ear, they seem to be alot harder to chew up all at once. She chews it and it gets slimy and soft but it still keeps its leathery feel. But, with those I sit and watch her closely. She isn't allowed to eat those while shes alone.

Debo gets a pig ear against my better judgement one every time we go to petsmart.
My husband insists he gets one and every time, I am paranoid he will choke, that is because I've seen Debo choke on a raw piece of chicken and it's scarey and a feeling of no control. But so far so good, but it is a NASTY mess though!!

Please do not give your Boxer baby pig ears or rawhide. They have a delicate stomach and many are allergic to them. They also cause acne. Buy a box of bisquits or a nyla bone

No problems with the pig ears yet for Major. *Knock on wood* He loves them, and usually doesn't chew on them long enough to get them soggy enough to swallow and once they get too small for him, I throw them away. I also only give them to him occasionally and when I am there.

No pig's ears for Ttakas and Bronte. Our previous boy, Chester, loved them and got one every week when we did the grocery shopping. He knew that when the groceries were put away, he got his treat! He too would chew them until they were a soggy mess and on several occasions got stuck on his palet and I'd have to remove it. Tried them with the pups when they were younger and Bronte cried all night - I'm sure she had a tummy ache. I've heard they are a carrier of salmonella, so we stay away from them now. T&B love chewing on cow hooves!

Holly has pig's ears once every few weeks with no problems. She LOVES them! Since asking this question myself I never give her them unattended. However, she eats them very carefully, chewing a liitle at a time until really soft, then biting it off and swallowing it. Yuck!
