No rawhide or pigs ears here either.
Try Bully Sticks. When they're that young Bully Sticks are a great thing to chew on. Now Owen eats them in about 10 minutes so he only gets it as an occasional treat but when he was a baby they would last forever and it would keep him occupied. He never touched Nylabones. Just remember not to leave him anything like this he's when left alone

I do give them pigs ears. They love them, they actually know the words "pigs ears". They only get them as a special treat and supervised. I never leave them alone with a chew toy, except for stuffed kongs. I hadn't heard about the bacteria thing though, I am definately going to research that.

We don't give them to Vegas. Our breeder told us that if they have to many of them the fat from the pigs ears collects in their intestines and they can't pass it. She has known dog that have had to had surgery to clear them of the fat. I guess this is for dogs who get them regularly.

I would recommend the bully sticks. I would take it away when it gets down to a couple of inches. Markus would always swallow it and then throw it up a couple of days later.

I'm with everyone else on this. Sirus does not, will never get any of that 'stuff'. I feel safe with a cow femur or hip. They last forever...and they don't break down in saliva...so no choke hazzard or gooey mess! Plus...it's good for their teeth...keeps 'em nice and bright.

Evie & Adam get an ear every now and again cuz they absolutely love them!! They are fully supervised of course - and yes! their breath totally stinks!! But, its worth their happiness.

I was at PetSmart tonight buying a crate and supplies for my new pup (only two days away from coming home!!!) and I was looking for pig ears. One of the associates who is also one of the trainers told me not to use pig ears because they contain formaldehyde. Has anybody else heard this? Is it true?

Petsmart and Petco sell a bone made by Nylabone (not the pastic ones) that are made of wheat and all natural ingredients. They are flavored (Luka prefers Ham and Cheese :D)
They are a bit pricey there ($3 or so), I only get them there in a pinch. Dr Fosters and Smith has them super cheap (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/) I can redirect Luka from almost anything with them!
One lasts him a week and 1/2 or so, I take it away when it gets too small.

We haven't done the pig ear thing with either of our puppies, but we do give them the tightly rolled (braided) rawhide chews and they've never had a problem with them at all....the pieces don't come off in chunks at all, so I don't worry too much about choking or blockages....we tried the bullysticks with both Keno & Daisy are very strong chewers and they ate them in less than 10 mins...they love to chew so we had to find them something that they wouldn't eat in no time flat....and as far as the Nylabones go, well they don't like them at all...not a bit interested in them !
