Pig ears

I was at PetSmart tonight buying a crate and supplies for my new pup (only two days away from coming home!!!) and I was looking for pig ears. One of the associates who is also one of the trainers told me not to use pig ears because they contain formaldehyde. Has anybody else heard this? Is it true?

I stay away from them aswell. Tyson has almost chocked on one a couple of times plus they have no nutritional value at all. Lamb lungs are very good and very nutritional. Give them a try.

We don't use pig ears but we do have cow hoofs. Our dogs love them. They last forever and they can chew and chew till their hearts are content. We buy the ones already open, not in the bags because they do smell. The ones that are just out have already been aired out and are tolerable.

If your dog is a chewer I would suggest these. Good luck with your little one.

Do a search here for raw hide The problems with pig ears - and any other dried body part for that matter - are exactly the same as for raw hide. Essentially dried skin becomes leather and is a huge choking hazard as well as being a potential source of bacterial poisoning for your dog.

No pig ears here,either. When Pooh was younger we had a choking episode. Had to reach down her throat and yank it out as she couldn't breathe.

No pig ears here either. My husband had a pitbull that almost choked to death on them. I do give cow hooves and she loves them and she chews and chews!!!! Keeps her busy when mommy needs to get stuff done! Enjoy the new addition! Happy holidays everone.

Well instead of raw hide for the little right now I got a nylabone.

My dogs love the pig ears but they did choke once, so I went to the pig slivers instead and havnt had a problem with them. If I get them a raw hide bone I dont get the flat chip like ones, I acually get the bone shaped ones that are large so they dont try and chew the whole thing in their mouth.

When we got Layla, our breeder told us to stay clear of pork products. Especially pig ears, due to the bacteria. Does anyone know how true this is? We've never given her any just to be on the safe side.

I've heard its only the ones sold seperately not in bags but we don't give them here either.
