Pet insurance

Does anyone have experience or know anything about any companies / plans? how does it work. I need to get Zowie an allergy test. Would that be covered on most plans? flea and tick meds? Allergy shots? And she will inevetably (sp) have to have a surgery on her right elbow. as well as prior arthritis meds or treatment of some sort. It would be an existing condition as her elbow was broken as a newborn (stepped on by mother). Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you go to the eukanuba web site you should be able to find info. on pet insurance. They have a company that they do promotions with. They put info. in the puppy kits that they give to vets to give to clients. I kind of doubt that they would cover pre-existing conditions.

I had pet insurance for Tomi at one time. I can tell you this: Cancer IS ONLY covered if they have NOT been tested or had an asperation on a lump for cancer before. The price goes up after they turn I THINK 5 or 7, I can't remember. Boxers are also listed as a high risk breed. Meaning, the breed has a higher risk of hip dysplasia, cancer and a few other things I can't remember. There is also a waiting period as far as when it kicks in. I know when I started Tomi on it, it was $45 a month. After they hit the "high risk" age, it then went up to like $70 something a month and I believe less was covered. This was 4 years ago, so perhaps their policies have changed.

I ended up dropping it due to having a tough time with an asperation for a lump. It turned out ok (insurance and Tomi), but I still dropped it. It is worth it in many instances, but be weary of their red tape. As with all insurance companies. It did pay for vet visits and such. I don't remember anything mentioned about allergy testing though. They probably do cover it

I would think the price has gone up a little since 4 years ago. As well as their policies changing a tad. Who knows... Anyhow, if I can find the pamphlet, I will PM you and give you the number to call. Hope this helps..

I have pet insurance that is offered through my job believe it or not. It costs me a total of 297.00/year and they take it out montly on payroll deduction, $24.76. I have everything but the cancer coverage.

For an allergin test there is an allowance of $135. For an allergic reaction test there is an allowance of $168 and for primary diagnosis an allowance of $94.

Besides 4 pages of what is covered I also have a rider for vaccinations and routine care included. I get 10 back on an office visit, which here is 12, 10 back on an exam, 10 back on DHL-P, 9 on parvo, 6 on carona, 10 on rabies, etc.

For less than 300 I have peace of mind and know that if something really awful should happen I have the coverage to help out. I was debating wether to add the cancer rider but figured I would wait a year to see how I like this coverage.

It is offered through MetLife I believe, at least mine is as part of an employee benefits package. Waiting period is less than 1 month. If you sign up on or before the 15th it kicks in the 1st of the following month, if you sign up from the 16th to the end of say Dec. it kicks in Feb. 1st.

We have VPI Pet insurance. We pay in advance and get a refund of between 50 to a 90% of the costs.Was a big help on 2 knee operations for our boxer..and they have cancer coverage also.We pay $397 a year for our 8 y.o.boxer.

If you can FIND pet insurance for your boxer for UNDER $45 a month, take it. It's clear, since I had pet insurance 4 years ago, there are more offered and they seem to have a better rate than which I was paying. I will give you the link anyhow.

I had the Golden program. If you notice where it says select breeds? The boxer is listed. Just be careful and make sure to read, read, read. There is a lot of fine print. Thank goodnes my vet helped me out with it.

We have VPI pet insurance and our boxer is 2 years old. I have to say that it has paid off so far since Jessie practically lived at the vet when she was a puppy. Even now, she'll have occasional eye infections and skin allergies so the insurance definitely helps. They pay for part of the office visit and medication. We have been reimbursed more than what we've paid per year. The monthly due does increase when they turn 5 years old. hope this helps

Read those fine lines

I had VPI coverage and I took it to my vet and if you read what isn't covered which is the ~
"Congenital or hereditary defects or diseases" what that means is they go by the book -"Medical and Genetic Aspects of Purebred Dogs" -Clark
And in a boxer well cancer is not covered, nor is heart issues and hip issues and several other issues, beacuse that is what boxers are genetically inclined to. So i was paying extra coverage for cancer insurance but it won't cover a boxer. Thanks to my vet we looked over the info and it is not a great investment for boxers owners...
