My company enthusiatically offered pet coverage for the first time this year and i was so excited...until i read the fees and coverage. To cover both of mine is $2000 a year. After reading what is covered and what is not...i declined to enroll. I was so dissappointed but felt that was outraegous and i would probably come out better on my own. My Sasha is allergy prone and last year we probably spent $1200 just on her. Telmar was healthy as a horse and we only spent about $200. However my Telmar was just diagnosed with hip dysplasia(cleverly not covered) and a heart murmur....I just did not find it to be worth it!

I am eternally grateful to Veterinary Pet Insurance. Though it took a good month or so to get my money for a claim, they paid for a good 85% of Abby's cancer treatment, which totaled over $3500. The thing is that you have to have it BEFORE the diagnosis. And they will only pay so much... Ironically, the day that we put Abby down, we got a claim back with no money saying that we had already exceeded our benefits... But the fact that they paid close to $3500 worth was so wonderful.

We will definitely get another policy when we get another Boxer.

VPI covered cancer for Abby's lymphoma. It paid nearly all of the cost of her chemo treatments, which ranged anywhere from $250-$400 a pop. I had the "Standard" coverage with the "Double Cancer Rider," and it appeared to cover around $3500 (total). The claims always came back with mysterious amounts and explanations, but they kept coming (eventually) and were very generous, so I didn't mind.

I was pretty skeptical because for other issues with Abby, on average, I was refunded about 1/3 of what I paid at the vet. I was shocked when I saw how much they were paying for the chemo.

I'm not sure what the deal is with other cancers... Anyone else find their experience totally different than mine??

I was paying a little over $18.00 a month for it too.
