Hi everyone.

I am interested in getting insurance for my two girls. But I have no idea what kinds are out there or which one would be best. I would love to hear any information you have to offer.

Thanks, Natasha, mom to Destiny and Chy

insurance

if you search "pet insurance" on the internet you'll find tons of info. i got Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) for my 2. Just filed my 1st claim so i can't say how it works yet. i know if they refund what they say they will it'll have paid me back 1/2 of what i paid in premiums already. not a bad deal!!!!!!
good luck!

Looks like I'm a little late to be chiming in, but we have PetHealth Care Plan, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's about half the price of VPI, much simpler IMO, and it's good coverage. The only downside so far is that it took us 4 months to get reimbursed for our first claims! We only pay $26/month total for our 2 boxers. :)

We also have PetHealth Care Plan for Joey. After comparing many, this seemed the best for us. Only recently signed up so can't give any opinion of claims, etc.

VPI insurance

Natasha,
I've got vpi insurance they are quick to return claims, but their plan is confusing and not the cheapest out there for what you get. Half the time that I send a claim I get like 1/4 of what a paid out. I heard that petco is coming out with an insurance plan, not "Banfield" but some other name. I am shopping around for another company too!

pet insurance saved out butts

hi, i have two boxers in southern ontario and we have insurance with PetCare. i'm not sure if it is limited to canada, but my dog was just hit by a car, and we wouldn't have been able to get emergency ( they require a deposit) if we hadn't had it. our claims come back in two weeks and they are very friendly and helpful. i would definitely recommed it to anyone, its one less worry when your only thought is of your sick puppy. one thing to look for is to make sure there is no chronic care clause.good luck, you'll feel better knowing that you have some help if your baby gets sick or decides to play chicken with a car. good luck.

Good to have but the read the FINE print

I have researched this subject for some time. I was just about ready to sign up with PetsHealth Care. It seemed to be the best and probaly is except for one small detail. Any illness is only covered for 1 year, since they make you renew each year, any illness covered the previous year is considered "Pre-existing" even though they covered it before. Pretty bad, don't you think.

Here is an email sent to them and the rep's response:

Dear Jeremy, what you have heard is accurate. What we offer is a claims made policy. The year that a problem arises is the year that we care for the issue.
If the problem is still ongoing in the renewal year it will not be covered. There are other insurances that drop patients when the situation is on going. We do not drop
the pet, only the unresolved illness.

Thank You for looking into Petshealth Insurance

Rep/Dawn

Subject: Question about your plan

I have an 18 month old Boxer in perfect health; I am considering signing up for the Value Care Plan. But, I have one question: I have read a lot of nasty reviews that state if my dog was to become ill with cancer in Dec 2003 all claims would be covered until I renew, then the cancer is considered a "Pre-Existing condition" even though your plan covered it the previous year. Is this true? I hope this is not true, because that would sure be a bad way to treat your customers.

Thanks for the info,
Jeremy Stakely

Sorry for the long post.

Wow, Jeremy, that really sucks. I have that insurance, and had heard something along those lines, but wasn't quite sure what it meant. Now I know! Grrrrrr.....

So, if Chewy gets a cold this year, and we claim a $20 office visit and $30 worth of meds, they'll cover it now, but wouldn't cover it again next year? There are many illnesses that can happen more than once in a dog's lifetime. How dumb!
