I agree that boxers are very smart, just stubborn:p Buddy amazes me with how smart he is! Not only all the tricks I've taught him, but the ones he's taught himself. For instance, if my little feist is outside and Buddy can see her, he will bang his bell that he uses to tell me it's potty time, until I let her back in. He uses his toenails on his stainless steel waterbowl to get my attention if he drinks all his water and wants more. I could go on and on, but the point is, he's soooo smart!!:D Whoever said boxers are dumb needs to go look in the mirror. They just get bored easy.:)

When I first took Maggie to the vet (I really don't care for this vet), he looked at her and said in a really slooooow voice, "Okay. I'll talk reaaaaaaaal slow so I don't confuse you. I know how easily Boxers get confused." Then he looked at me with this "how cute I am" look on his face. I almost wished Maggie would have biten him then....

(this is the same vet who told me that Barney, my terrier, was the "ugliest" dog he'd ever seen. Actually, Barney DID bite him.)

If I walked into a vet for my kid to get examined and they pulled that crap I would of walked right out. I would of told him nicely and slowly as to not confuse him, where he can go. That is totally offensive to a pet owner. And telling you your dog is ugly! HMPH! Did he happen to show you any pics of his kids? You could of jumped back in horror evilicon

 Sometimes the way Sophie looks at me, I know she is thinking " How stupid IS this woman?" I have to agree, Boxers are very intelligent and it's our problem to figure them out and to see what makes them tick....then to make it fun and exciting so as that they want to do the right thing! My boxer has been the biggest challenge of all my dogs but I have to say I love and dearly cherish her most of all!lovicon

I HATE when I get this particular vet. (So does Barney. He always growls and tries to bite him.) The other vet is really nice and complimented Maggie on being so well-behaved. She actually told me that Boxers are "very smart."

Which, of course, they are.

we have 2 Boxers, our female is smart but she is very stubborn, but she is very smart. Our male is very smart, he can be very stubborn but not as much as our female. Our female has had training, she had done agility before and has come in first place before, I would say her learning to do agility and being trained by a trainer she is not dumb, she just has a stubborn streak in her. Our male we got from a rescue, he has never had any training, but he is very mellow and listens very well, he has never done any agility at all and never will, he is very smart. makes me mad whe people say Boxers are dumb! or they say is that a pitt bull???????? Boxers look nothing like a pitt bull, anyway Boxers are not dumb, if U take the time to teach them and love them they will learn and not ever be dumb. Boxer are the best!

Scruffy is the smartest dog I have ever had!! He learned to sit at 9 weeks and it took less than 5 min. Now at 15 wks. he knows "lie down" and whenever he needs to go out he will try his best to turn the doorknob. But I must agree with several others in that he is very stubborn. But that just goes to show you what character and personality boxers have. If I wanted a "sheep" that followed me aimlessly, I would have bought one of those instead.:p

Completely Boxer Crazy
OK, so at 2:30 a.m. this morning I hear whining. And whining and whining. So I get out of bed and find that my foster girl, Isabel, is under the bed and can't get out again. To make matter worse, she was spayed on Thursday so she is wearing an elizabethan collar on her head.

This is the second time she has done this. She doesn't understand that she has to turn SIDEWAYS to get back out again. I have to get up, turn her manually, and pull her out.

Now I'm not saying that my girl is not smart, but I don't think she is working on her Phd in her spare time . . .
