I have had a couple of rude remarks about my boxer because he's flashy, and has a longer snout. In Germany most owners (the ones I have talked to) with boxers think that the snout is supposed to be really really short. People ask me what my boxer is mixed with or why is his nose long. I have looked at thousands of pictures of boxers and Tyson, to me, looks just like the rest of them. His nose doesn't look any longer then the average boxers I've seen. Let me know if you think different.

It really is insane that we still have to go through this...a dog is a dog! It doesn't matter if it's yellow, purple, green or blue!

Thankfully, I have never had a severly negative comment about or towards Sirus...except for the whole, "Stay away from that mean dog!" from parents. Little do they know that all he'd do was knock 'em down and kiss 'em, all the while his little nub wiggles a million miles an hour! I've also gotten the "Aren't white Boxers a rare breed?!" question that really just makes me want to slap people upside their heads. smashicon

Anyhow...don't worry too much about what OTHER people say about your baby. When people would say funny things about Sirus, I use to get a little hurt, but now I just sort of shrug it off. The people that really know Sirus...which happens to be a lot of people (he's such a social butterfly!)...just absolutely love him. Plus, if you think about it, the only people in the world that your baby is trying to impress...is their family. So as long as you love them...they're happy as can be.

I know just what you mean!

My Chloe, white with a brindle patch over her eye, has been called a "pitt" by one person and a "bull dog" by another person.

"No, she's a registered white boxer. I've seen and played with her mother and father." <----That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Lol!

People just don't know the breeds.

. Well, eventually, I got fed up and my standard response everytime someone would tell me that I'm being cruel by starving my dog, I would look at them and just say ".....they taste better this way", and walk away. You can do the same think with your beautiful baby.

I LOVE IT!!!!

The worst for me is when people ask me if i have puppies and when i tell them that Avra is spayed they say..ohh how you could do this??It's so cruel!

The white boxer comments kill me!! Here are some that I have gotten

"A white boxer?? Are you sure he is not mixed with something?"
"You better watch out the ones that are albino are the ones that are really ill tempered. One day he will turn on you."
"Those are rare, I would sell him and make some money off of him."

These comments are just people talking to hear their brain rattle because they sure don't know what they are talking about. Cooper is most certainly not albino, deaf, or dumb. He is very gentle and not ill tempered. He is my baby no matter what people think about him. But I have also had people tell me he is one of the most pretty dogs they have seen. My neighbor says that everytime I see him when i take Cooper out to the bathroom. So ignore the ignorant and you know how pretty you baby is.

About the only comment I get on Carson is " is he mixed with a dalmation?" :)

I just reply, no he's just a Dalmaton wannabe.

Answering stupid questions should be in the user's manual for white boxers! I'm thinking of printing out a handful of white boxer FAQs, and sticking them in the leash bag so I'm armed for whatever crap I get!

Seriously, even people, who have at one time or another have proven themselves to be capable of thought processes, drop the albino bomb on me. What is it about this face that makes one think albino? (see gallery)

Don't loose heart though. We love boxers no matter what color the hair on our clothes and furniture is!

I have yet to get a negative comment, rude or polite, about Ava. Most are surprised when they are told that she's a Boxer. They've never seen one before, or they do ask if they are rare.

In fact, more people are drawn to her rather than Indy, though he is a beautiful brindle. They are fascinated by her dark brown eyes, and the black spots on her skin when they finally notice them.

But, were I to receive only negative comments about her, it wouldn't bother me in the least. As long as she makes us happy, and we know better, who cares what anyone else thinks.

There will always be people who have nothing better to do than to be critical. Why worry about their opinions?

Many years ago, I used to have a Saluki. She was just gorgeous, and in keeping with the breed standard, very slim and trim, the way they are supposed to be. Well, because very few people were familiar with the breed at the time, people would stop me constantly and yell at me to feed my dog, or why am I starving my dog....blah, blah, blah.

Grrrr I often had the same problem with my black Italian Greyhound (for those of you who don't know they look like miniature greyhounds basically. They look a lot like whippets only smaller and slightly different). They are very slim and trim dogs and people would point at her and make comments like "what is that?" or "Looks like a rat!" or "Do you feed it? It's so skinny!" or (looking at me like I'm some cruel animal abuser) "You should really be feeding your dog more you know". I would just smile and say "FYI she's an Italian Greyhound and this is actually the way they look and are supposed to look. That's why greyhounds run so fast." Usually they'd apologise or look like they felt stupid. Sometimes, depending on the person and how rude they were, I would reply with "Well looks like someone could be feeding you LESS" or my favorite: "She's so skinny!", "Yeah and you're so fat/stupid. What's your point?"

Bottom line is: Educate them! We could use more Boxer educated people and the only way is to educate them ourselves. Just give them a couple main facts and if they want to hear more tell them more. If they are particularly rude then do what I did - give them a nice comeback and send them on their merry, stupid way.
I know how upsetting rude comments can be, but you just have to learn to deal with it and make something positive come out of it. For each rude comment you can educate a new person who can spread the word to someone else. And being that you're in a small town, pretty soon everyone will know how great, normal and definitely NOT dumb your baby is!

p.s. sorry for the long post
