Same here...I needed to purchase other stuff and evitamins had decent shipping prices, so I went there...but you could prob save a buck or two if you shop around or find a local carrier.

Ran out of the Seacure powder and figured I'd see how Papi did only on the SAM-e pills and so far, so good. I probably should have given him those when the doc first mentioned it...

That's good to hear about Papi...what did you mean you should have given him those when the doctor mentioned it?

Zoey ran out of Seacure as well, I think I'm going to get additional product but am looking at a different company since doing additional research and have found that L-Glutamine makes up about 40% of the Seacure product. She seems to be doing well without it but I think the healing properties alone of the L-Glutamine are worth looking into since I have yet to find an answer to her digestive problems. We just finished several tests - thyroid, diarrhea panel (tests for 7 different things), CBC and SuperChem - all came back normal!!! But after I looked at the CBC & SuperChem they definitely don't look all that normal to me...how is having elevated Sodium and Potassium levels normal??? And then her HCT levels were way above normal but they said that was OK!!! Last test from Texas A&M showed she was B12 deficient so we are giving B12 injections along with medium chain triglyceride oil (prescription stuff - according to the vet) to give her some "digestible" fat in hopes of putting some weight on her skinny frame... The new vet is concerned it may be EPI or the beginning stages of it.

I am soooooo up in the air about what direction to take with this. She seems to be doing better but at the same time the digestive issues are still present. The vet thinks her pancreas may be compromised.

Any words???

too much experience with this subject :(

I don't know what you are feeding Papi on a regular basis, but my boxer kept getting pancreatitus on and off for years until I realized that he was allergic to I/D (hills version of a bland diet). Anyway Tonka kept vomiting, so he kept getting pancreatitus until I tried to change his food to IVD venison and potato diet for dogs with food allergies. Since the switch Tonka never gets ear infections and unless he gets one of the other dogs food or treats usually doesn't vomit anymore! Usually they say stick away from anything high in fat, table food or fatty treats, but pancreatitus can also be caused by stress. I don't know how much your vet marks up the food, but the cost of the prescription food is not marked up much at my vet and usually it is the best food to feed them when they are sick. Unfortunately, because of my dogs allergies I always keep him on his IVD even when he has pancreatitus, but the IVD is a low fat food regardless. You could also try boiled chicken and rice combo if you don't want to buy the food from the vet. Good luck and I hope your baby feels better!

The doc said to start Papi on SAM-e a while back, but since I was testing other things, I didn't do it. Since he started the pills, he's been doing well. First thing they've gotten right!

Hi all,

I haven't been on here in a while so I'm sorry to hear that Zoey has started having problems again. Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice as to what might be going on with her. Are you still feeding her the same home-prepared diet? I've been thinking about starting Lola on L-Glutamine as well since she's had a great deal of muscle wasting in her hind in from arthritis and the Cushing's Disease. What company are you looking at for this supplement? I really hope things turn around for you and Zoey soon.

I officially started Lola on a home-prepared diet a little over a month ago formulated by Monica Segal. It consists of Ground Turkey, Rice, Zucchini, baby carrots and many supplements. I went the route of obtaining a consultation in order to make sure I'm feeding her a balanced diet. Every time I tried to figure it out on my own, I became very overwhelmed and now I can feel comfortable knowing I'm giving her the right amount of food along w/ the right vitamins/minerals. So far, she's doing very well with the diet and her digestive issues seem to have disappeared (hopefully I'm not jinxing things by writing this)!

That's great to hear that Papi is doing well.

Zoey gained a whole 4 lbs since January! She is finally getting some formation to her stool appicon so maybe the Vitamin B-12 deficiency was really wreaking havoc on her system? She ios still getting the home-prepared diet with some healthy additions - she absolutely loves it lovicon and has not become tired of it at all.

partyicon Congratulations Aimee on making the switch to home-cooking for Lola! I guess the important question to ask is how does she like it? I know what you mean about "jinxing" things by saying or writing them...

If you don't mind me asking, how much was your consult with Monica Segal? What types of supplements did she recommend? Also, are you buying your ground turkey in bulk?

We are purchasing her supplements through Natures Farmacy...digestive enhancer, something called ultimate, and ocean cure (it doesn't smell at all!) and a calcium supplement...the vet said her coat looks amazing and that things seem to be going in the right direction. She wants me to try and ease her off the rice, not sure why though...

Hi Tina,

The consultation w/ Monica Segal cost $250.00 and this includes two months of e-mail back and forth. If you need longer than two months, I believe it's an additional $100.00 per month. If you're interested, you can check out her website at monicasegal.com. It was hard for me to pay the $250.00 but it's been worth it to me to have guidance and know that what I'm feeding is balanced.

I did jinx myself with my last post though. Lola started having loose stools and diarrhea after I started adding in the vitamin/mineral supplements. At first I thought it was the Magnesium. I discontinued all of the supplements until her stools returned to normal and then I started adding them in one at a time again. I now think that it's the Di-Calcium Phosphate which is causing her problems so once again, I'm discontinuing all supplements. She does great with the base diet but I don't know how long it's safe to go without the supplements. I've e-mailed Monica Segal to see how I should proceed from here.

With the ground turkey, I just buy it in bulk whenever I see it on sale at the store. I go through about 4 lbs. per week and with the sales I've been hitting, the cost hasn't been bad at all. It feels so good to prepare Lola's diet at home because I know exactly what she's getting. She also looks very healthy so this makes me even happier! I'm sure you feel the same way with Zoey. It's nice to see them thrive with the effort we put into making their meals!

I don't see why you would need to cut back on the rice if Zoey is doing well. I'd say stick with whatever is working. :)
