I agree...Zuzu has lab friends who are REALLY good with her. She is 14.5 weeks old and her friends are 1 1/2 years.

The puppy class and the dog park will work perfectly for socializing with other dogs and don't worry boxers like playing with the big dogs. Also remember to socialize her with other things like people and different envirements. You can bring her into pet stores and other places that don't serve food like Home Depot. Good luck and have fun because she will get alot of attention.

Please don't wait until she's 5 months old to start training. Most training facilities will offer puppy kindergarten-type classes for dogs as young as 10-12 weeks. It's definitely worth it.

I personally wouldn't use a PetSmart/Petco type class with a puppy that hasn't had all its shots. Unvaccinated dogs have likely been in the store, and in a store that also has a veterinary clinic -- bad idea. They also are in the habit of sending people through one class, declaring them "trainers" and sending them out to run classes.

A real training center is likely to demand proof of vaccination from its older dogs and assurance that the babies are all at basically the same level of immunizations. In such a controlled environment, the social benefits outweigh the physical risks.

I agree... Puppy kindergarten is meant for dogs up to 4 or 5 months, not for puppies over that. (this is more likely basic obedience classes). I'd check around. It did wonders for Joe! As for other people not wanting to let their puppies play, I'm not sure. Is it because they are nervous of your baby, or is it that their dogs do not have all their shots yet? I've never had anyone keep their dogs from Joe. Hopefully it's just a shot thing. Otherwise, let them know what a good natured baby you have.

Five months is really too late. You should be able to take your puppy to class once she has had here second vacination. Please try and find another class.

Little doggie friends

After watching my Boxer play with his "best friend" Watson the Cairn Terrier, I can see why the "little dog" owners might be hesitant. The key to little dog friends is retreat. When Watson and Corbett (my boxer pup) play together we make sure Watson, the Cairn terrier, has a chair he can retreat under. That way Corbett learns if he is too out of control Watson will hide. But honestly sometime Watson wears HIM out! Try some terrier friends, terriers can be pretty brave for "little dogs".

Also, English bulldogs make great Boxer buddies. Corbett's other "best friend" is Chopper a 9 month old bulldog. Chopper is about 45 lbs right now and very calm, as english bulldogs are. So when Corbett (20 lbs) gets too rough, Chopper puts him weight on him and makes him submit. I had really good luck with both these breeds as playmates.

my little bubba is 9 weeks today. he loves to chase my parents shepards. the oldest just runs from him but the 4 year old gets a bit two nippy with him for my liking. my little 11 pound rascal chasing 80 pound dogs until they get on the couch to where he cant go is quite comical. as long as there sanitary, why not try some of the local shelters and rescues? even if he cant play he'll get to see, smell and hear? this is my first boxer, i must say im very impressed.
at 9 weeks old bubba sits, speaks, shakes paw, down, and roll over! he also goes to the door and whines to go out! hes about 90% for being house broken and 100 % so far for his crate. he also decided to teach himself to go up the stairs(chasing my 2 boys)so theres another baby gate to get! i lost my last puppy(pugsley my black pug) do to a slip and fall down the stairs so im quite paranoid of them.
good luck im sure you can come up with some things. theres always vet waiting rooms, dog groomers, or otheres if your deparate for him to at least meet and see other dogs.

Playtime

I have run into situations with my 11 week old puppy Sasha, and my previous boxer Misty with certain playmates and their owners. I think the reason some people are hesitant to let their puppies play with boxers is because of their boxing. They get nervous that Sasha is being too rough when she paws at thier puppy, especially in the face. I have found over the couse of 12+ years that it's better to let boxers play with bigger more tolerant dogs when they are puppies, and even when they get older they play well with puppies and or larger breeds of dogs.
