Our trip to Petco

I brought Riley to Petco today to get some of the Mother Hubbard treats that were recommended in a previous post. Which, by the way Riley LOOOOOOOOVES!!!! I got him the biggest sized bones in the Bacon and Egg (or cheese) flavor and a bag of the smallest sized which has the assorted flavors. He's already a big fan of them. Very, very quick with his commands!!

Anyway, we got into Petco and almost immediately got off to a bad start!! We were coming out of an isle and at the same time this lady was coming into the same isle. Well, of course she's walking right next to us so Riley leans over to sniff her. Riley's lead is only 6' and most of that 6' is wrapped around my arm to keep him extra close to me. This lady, instead of stepping back or asking me to keep him away, just pushes his head away. It wasn't a violent push or anything, but I was still ticked off to say the least that she took it upon herself to physically move my boy!! Upon seeing this, I pulled Riley even closer to me and simultaneously told her that I did not appreciate her pushing him away like that especially when I was right there to pull him back. She just looked at me with these nasty eyes and she walked away as if nothing happened. I was so upset with her, but I saw no need to really persue her and make a big scene. So, Riley and I kept browsing.

From there we headed towards the leash and harness section. That's when we ran into the second lady. She had two kids with her, one looked to be about 7ish and the other about 10ish. The older of the two asked if they could come over to pat Riley. Their mother said "no, stay here... I don't want you to go near the big dogs". During this whole thing, Riley was wiggling his little stub because he noticed the two kids looking at him. Of course he was all excited thinking they'd come over to pat him. Unfortunately, their mother was teaching them to avoid big dogs. They may never experience the joys of being owned by a boxer. :(

Other than those two episodes, Riley had a great trip. He got some snacks while we were checking out. He got to meet some nice people who wanted to pat him. One lady was saying that her husband wants a boxer so badly, but she's not sure of them. I of course took it upon myself to tell her how great they are. If I remember correctly, I told her that "Riley is my first boxer, and now I'm hooked!!". She just laughed, looked at him, and commented on how gorgeous he is and how nicely he was behaving. :D I think meeting Riley may have gotten her to consider getting a boxer. ;)

The NERVE of that woman to push Riley away. Good for you for not making a scene. I wish I could say that I could hold my temper back. I don't think I'd have been able to. And I hate when people teach their kids to stay away from larger breed dogs (even though boxers are really medium) just because they are larger, they are SUPPOSED to be mean or something. I really hate that. I'm glad Riley had a good time, despite some ignorant people.

Kind of makes you wonder why she was even in Petco....She just needed a rat to feed her snakesmashicon That was sarcastic. Anyhow, That is just rude all she needed to do was just remove herself from that area. I have even been imtimidated by big dogs in petsmart and just waited to get my items off that isle. As for the kids thing that is just stupid!! by what some people do these days, and I don't know why it would shock me with the way things are going lately!!!

Kiki sends lovicon to Riley for his hurt feelings.

Apparently the first lady was not a dog lover or she would have been a lot more grecious. :(

The second is robbing her children of experiencing the love of a "Big" lovable dog. That's so sad, because they are missing out on a real joy! :)

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think I could have held back if anyone pushed Murray's face away! I can't even imagine that someone who would do this to an animal could even own one! I always feel bad for Murray when he sees people and that little tail is wagging 100 miles a minute and they just ignore him! By the way, Murray loves those Mother Hubbard treats, too!

People never seice to amaze me with their stupidity. Riley is obviously a wonderful sweet boxer---but how did that lady know that she could safely push him & that he wouldn't become upset over it? That was an idiotic thing to do --to push an unknown dog! Then if anything would have happened she would have blamed the dog. We had a guy down here, that was a baseball coach for young kids, come flying into the community baseball field one day while my Boxers were in there. He threw open the latched gate & ushered the kids inside the field. While I am telling him, please wait, I will leash my dogs immediately. He didn't wait--he brought the kids inside the gate---while he was very loudly telling me that he had this ball field reserved for this time & I needed to leave the field with my dogs. How did he know my dogs wouldn't bite him----He didn't, he was just more concerned with his time being wasted, then concern for the safety of those kids. There were 10 kids in that field by the time I got my dogs leashed up. And he left the gate wide open. I don't think the parents of those kids would have been too happy if they would have seen him do this. I was in shock--but so glad that my Boxers love children.

I have to agree with nmsis. To push at a dogs head is to encourage a response which may not be positive. Sounds like somebody looking for an incident which would allow them to sue for damages. Maybe that's how the witch makes a living.

Nmsis, you can fix your mistakes in a post without having to fess up. Click on the edit button at the bottom of your post and a window will open with your post. You can make any changes you need, then scroll down and click the left button that says, (oops I forgot what it says). I'm going to submit this then edit it to include what I forgot.

Ah yes, the left button says "save changes" and the right button says "reset message". The reset message button restores it, erasing any changes you have made. So when you are satisfied with your editting job, click on "save changes" and no one will be any the wiser. I think it's known as CYA.

The only clue will be a note at the bottom that says you have editted the message.
