KonaKoffe,
In regards to possible treatments, we went through the ringer last year seeing and speaking to vets all over the country. Unfortunately, the severity of his case makes Murdoch not able to try any surgical interventions. At one point I offered to pay Colorado State over $8000 that I don't have to try and fix him and they went through all of his records and said there is no way they could accept him as a candidate bc the valve is so badly defective and there is an artery issue as well. In addition, his heart was so enlarged we were told that makes surgery almost impossible as well. The poor little guy, there was just nothing left for him. The cardiologists I dealt with in Colorado, Texas A&M and NYC were very kind and showed alot of sympathy for Murray's condition. That was nice because I kinda expected them to be detached from the whole thing like a human surgeon would be. These docs felt as bad for Mur as we all do and they all wished there was some way to help him. He does take a few meds, Diuretics and digoxin ring a bell (hubby is in charge of meds). The meds help but he is terrible bloated from the heart liquid backing up into his abdomen (this is because of the side of the heart that is affected. If it was the other side of the heart it would back into his lungs and he would cough alot) We have been assured that his bloatedness is not painful for him. He just needs lots of cusion to lay down and someone to lean on makes him really happy. But then our healthy Boxer loves to lean on us too. LOL!
Anyway, everyone's good wishes are much appreciated and we send out the same wishes to all of your Boxers! This board is such a great place filled with the best people I have ever met online.
