Boxer Blue

Just for fun, I thought I would give some background on our new male Boxer's name. We just picked him up on 2/13/10, and he was born on Christmas day.

The breeder we got him from had 9 puppies in the litter. Instead of giving them all temporary names, she color codes all of them. When we first contacted her, we told her we were interested in males only, and we asked for pictures of them. In return, she emailed us pictures of the three male puppies that she had which were color coded as blue, green, and gold. Out of those three puppies, we liked the picture of the blue one the best. We tentatively agreed to that one, and over the next two weeks prior to seeing our little guy in person, we kept referring to him as "the blue one". Well, that name ended up sticking, and now his name is Blue!

To make a long story longer.....We will be registering Blue with AKC as well, and have the paperwork ready to go. So last weekend, we were watching a dog show on TV, and were getting a kick out of the names of the dogs (no offense to dog show people). So we decided that we would register Blue with a cool name as well. So his official registered name will be:

Dexter Blue Von Pot Licker

Dexter....Because we love the show Dexter.

Blue....As explained above.

Von Pot Licker....My grandfather just passed away, and we attended his funeral the day before picking Blue up. My grandpa was also a good friend of mine, and he liked dogs too. Well, he always referred to dogs as pot lickers. Kind of an old school term for dogs, as they were commonly feed from a pot from the kitchen. So as a tribute to my grandfather, we included the name Pot Licker! My gramps would be proud, I'm sure!

So that is the story behind Blue! Hope you enjoyed it!

Love it! I'm sure your Grandfather will be keeping an eye out for your boy :)

And on a somewhat related note...there is an interstate (I-476) near me that is commonly referred to as 'the blue route'. Why? Because when the planners were trying to determine where the road would be placed, the map was marked with several choices in different colors. The one that was selected was the one marked in blue.

Thanks everyone! You are right, Gramps would be proud of this lil' pot licker! He is a good little dude, and we are having so much fun with him. He is learing quickly, and has merged into our family very easily. Thanks again for your comments!
