Tanya&jazz I did buy some kind of bitter spray. It's not bitter apple but I got it from petsmart. I sprayed his leash but he still bites it - I guess it doesn't bother him. I am going to have to buy that bitter apple. I sure hope it does the trick. Thanks a lot

Biting the leash is perfectly normal. The key in the very early days is to follow the pup -- get him somewhere he wants to explore and follow him closely enough so that he forgets about the leash. You can roll a ball, or throw a toy -- anything that will send him away from you (while you follow).

Soon he'll associate the leash with going out and having fun, and just the sight of you reaching for it will result in celebration!

Ha, we're new owners ourselves and are experiencing similar experiences. (Joe is about 9-10 weeks... My wife knows exactly...)

He went after the big dogs too. Fearless... and really social with absolutely EVERYONE/EVERYTHING! And we've let him be verbally reprimanded by the adult dogs (but not nipped).
He's currently got the sniffles, so, we're really watching that we don't share that to our neighbour's dogs. Doc says nothing to worry about.

He's super on the leash and really didn't bite at it that much?!? (Walks on the lead OK.) He'll sometimes want to sit and watch leaves/cyclist...etc. while walking. But, per the advice here... just letting him get the feel of things.

Just viewed Wilson's pics and he is absolutely adorable!! With regards to the leash training - I had trouble with all my dogs at first, but they soon got the hang of it. I agree with the others - let him get used to wearing it in the apartment, and let him lead you as he explores. Then try taking the lead a little bit each day. Sounds like you are doing a great job with the house training. The most important thing is to be consistent and watch for his cues telling you that he has to go out. Enjoy your new baby - Cathy

Thanks a lot lafsalot! He's getting a bit better with his leash actually. Still tries to bite it , but he is definitely walking better with it. I appreciate all the advice

Leash Biting

I had forgotten all about that, but in reading this thread it reminded me of my old man I lost 2 1/2 years ago. He didn't bite his leash, but he would carry the slack in his mouth. It looked like he was walking himself.
