My daughter was in the park with our boxer puppy on a leash & a Adult male German Shepherd attacked her while on his leash. Dallys (my daughter) said the owner let her bite her while Bella (our baby) screamed & cried finally he punched th dog & pulled him off. I got a knock on the door from one of Dallys's friends saying Bella was hurt. I went downstairs & saw Dallys carrying Bella. Both were teribly upset. I cleaned her up & have been watching her until the animal cops arrive.... She has puncture wounds on her shoulder & her front left leg is all chewed up. Dallys is SO upset!! Bella is acting very scared & timid. I love this site & while we wait I thought I would get input from anyone who has any advise. I spoke to the owner & he said he was willing to go half on any expenses. He added that his dog doesn't like other dogs & has attacked before. Hmmm... what can I do?

I am so sorry this happened to you. How is Bella doing today? I think the owner of the German Shepard should be paying 100% of the expenses. I think he has a real nerve only offering to pay half. :(

It is really important the Bella gets out with other friendly big dogs as soon as possible. You don't want her being scared of big dogs.

Good luck!

The owner should pay 100% of Bella's,he should have had control of his adult Shepard on leash & not near other dogs since he knew of this problem
Did you take Bella right into the vet? Let us know how she is, I hope Dallys is doing well ,so hard to see something like this happen

Yes, he ought to pay all the expenses. I just wanted to mention that you should be careful the next time you walk Bella. My boy Fred was attacked at the dog park, no injuries, but he and my girl Lucy acted very differently the next time out. They were both very "bullyish". I no longer take them to the dog park :( . They are ok on their leashes. I hope this is not the case for Bella, but just watch for it. Hope she is doing better.

I agree with Jan about getting her out with big dogs ASAP. My Bruno was attacked by a group of dogs a couple of years ago and he has been a nervous mess ever since. As a result, he eventually became fear aggressive towards other dogs. It's going to be a LONG process for us to reverse these results(if we ever can). With Bella being so young though, you should have no problem if you continue to socialize her. Best of luck.

Take pictures of the injuries so you will have something to show in court should you have to sue. Also, ask the vet to write a detailed report of the injuries. Get a copy of the animal control report as well.

How old is your daughter? If she is a minor, then you may want to find an adult eye witness who will provide a notorized letter describing the event. It would be a good idea to do that anyway, but especially if she is a kid, because it will lend credibility to her account of the event.

The owner of the other dog should pay all the expenses. He failed to control his dog. You may want to check with local authorities on the procedure for reporting the incident, if you don't get the other dogs owner to pay the bills, and document, document, document. Take pictures, get your daughter's and her friend's recollections of the inciodent written down ASAP. Get copies of the medical records.

I hope Bella will be all right.

completely agree with everyone else.. you should not have to pay ANY expenses as your dog did nothing wrong! it's like someone rear ending your car and then offering to pay half even though you were just sitting at the light...

Thanks for all advise!

I took pics, vet put her on antibiotics, & she is doing very well. I am taking the vet bill over to the Shepherd owner today so that will be interesting. He did call to see how she was doing so at least he seems to care.
The animal control never showed up that night. I called yesterday (day after incident) they said they would come as soon as possible, - still haven't heard. Maybe I should just file a report with the police. Anywy thanks to everyone for the advise! We will be taking her to the dog park today - hopefully we can find some big NICE dogs! :0 )

I am sorry Bella got attacked. I also feel the guy should be paying 100%. Call the police so there is at least some type of record of it. Let them know what animal control said also. They may call animal control being this guy said his dog is aggressive and he didn't take precautions.
I hope Bella and Dallys feel better soon. I would be a wreck!
