How old is your "puppy" (if it was posted I missed it)? Depending upon how old she is you may want to skip the dog park (given that you never know who is going to bring their dogs there and what issues they may have) and get together with people that you know for doggie playdates instead so you know the owners, temperament of the dogs, etc. Safer safety wise as well as disease wise.

Also, you may want to not have your daughter take puppy out by herself if she is a minor.

I definitely agree with the others that the GSD owner should pay 100% of the medical expenses ESPECIALLY if the dog has done it before, continued to do this while on leash and the owner did not stop it, they are obviously not very responsible dog owners nor very caring IMO.

please do a police report! The police will file with animal control. Do this for yourself and others. This dog and owner have issues owner mostly. A police report helps you and any other person that may have a problem in the future with this person. What if the German Shepard that he is not training attack a child.

Ridiculous

Well the animal control FINALLY came! Basically they told me since they were both on a leash nothing could be done - even though the dog has attacked before. They chked with the owner of the Shepherd to make sure he was up to date on shots. (he was surprisingly) THen the owner had the nerve to give attitude to my daughter saying "your mom didnt have to call them I could have just showed her the shot record." These people are really something. I agree that they should be paying for the vet bill, but I don't feel like dealing with these nutcases! I'm just glad Bella is okay & I appreciate everyones comments. OH - forgot to mention I saw their 10 yr old daughter who probably weighs 80 lbs walking the dog. I wonder how she'll handle the dog when it attacks again. :(

If you google dog laws in Florida, what the animal control officer told you is not true, unless the law in your city is different from the state. If the authorities know that this dog has attacked before, the owner of the german shepherd is now guilty of a misdemeanor. He is more than responsible for your vet bills, he should also be charged with a crime. I'm sure it is easier not to deal with him but the next time that dog attacks it may kill. And he is acting totally irresponsible if he is letting a child in control of that dog in public. This is a disaster just waiting to happen!

I'm very glad to hear that Bella is feeling better. Make sure you get her around other dogs as soon as you can.
