Oscar hurt - need healing vibes!

Poor Oscar! Those crazy little puppies! I'm waiting for Colby to hurt himself b/c he runs around like a maniac, too! I'm glad to hear that nothing was broken. The soft tissue damage is like a bad bruise, in the tissues, muscles, etc. It would still cause him pain. Think of it as if you had fallen and not broken anything, but had a very bad bruise or strain. His muscles are probably very strained and bruised at this point. So keeping him relaxed is a good but very difficult thing! The crate should definitely work. I would put a nice soft bed in there so his body is cushioned. Warm compresses help loosen tight, injured muscles, so he might like that, too. Of course, extra special lovin' from Mommy can't hurt, either!!
Good luck. Keep us posted on how he's feeling. Colby and Skye send him lots of get-well wiggles!!

We have Oscar's x-rays from the ER vet and will go to our regular vet probably after a couple of days and possibly also an ortho vet - depending on how things to - to make sure we are giving him the best possible care.

I think that is the best way to handle it. I certainly would. Better safe than sorry with our babies that can't tell us where and how bad it hurts. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sending your baby lots of ((((((healing))))))) vibes..... Crating him a bit to let him have time to heal sounds like a great idea.... Boxers just don't know when to quit, even after spay/neuter surgery and what not, they still want to do more burns and jumps, etc.... So, this will help in keeping him calm.... or even turn the lights down, pull out some extra blankets and make a little pow wow on the floor. Laydown with him, and just cuddle, get him something that he can chew on to take his mind off getting up and running around. If you two just lay down together and keep things quiet, he should get some much needed rest

Guinness was a "three-legged-pup" for awhile earlier this year due to a nasty spider/bug bite that ended up causing a major problem. Remember that as they have four legs, it is as though they have "built-in crutches" when one leg is out of commission. Handy, isn't it?
For the early stages of an injury like this, I think he'll be somewhat likely to temper his own activities anyhow out of pain. But, then again, if the Vet prescribed anti-inflammatories, that might ease his pain enough that he does too much too soon. I guess I'd say definitely crate him as others have suggested, and also don't let him loose in the yard (leash him for potty breaks, etc.). Also keep him from being with other dogs in any space large enough to play chase, run, jump, etc. Good luck - we're sending healing vibes your way for a speedy recovery!

Thank you everyone! I will definitely keep the BW gang posted on our progress. I have always held to the belief that boxer owners are special people, and you guys prove my point 100%.

He went potty outside a few minutes ago - whew! One milestone behind us.

You should see my family room. I have laid on the floor w/ Oscar all day on all our throw pillows, and I am letting him cuddle with the furry blanket on the couch that is usually an "off" or "leave it" item. I can always go to Target and get another one He can have it if it makes him feel better. I have fed him his special favorite treat of PB, banana, plain yogurt and wheat germ.

This is how nuts I am about this baby. He sleeps with us, but b/c he absolutely CAN'T jump out on us, I am making DF put the matress on the floor and we'll all sleep there.

God bless all our sweet, silly babies that think they are 10 foot tall and bullet proof!!

Poor Oscar!! So glad that nothing was broken!! Silly boy Oscar! You have to remember to keep those burns within the posted speed limit

I hate having our babies at the vet-I'm sitting here waiting on a call fromours to let me know Pooh's surgery is over-what better place to be than here!
