Well, none of the breeds suggested for me were the ones I ever considered :( Shiba Inu - geez, give me a break.... and I notice it has Dobermanns as the picture for the extremely large dogs. My sister's female Dobie is only 65 lbs. Good thing I wasn't swayed by "expert's" suggestions for breed choice... And I think it was put off because I WOULD like my Boxer babies to have a longer lifespan and be a more healthy breed in general. After all, who's going to say "health isn't important to me?" And, BTW, "I don't want a dog that lives too long..."

When we chose the Boxer we did lots of reading, went to dog shows and talked to the breeders. There were several breeds we were considering - Dobes, Chocolate Labs and Boxers based on our criteria. I think these type of things can be a help if you are totally in the dark about which dog breed to get, but the best source, IMO is dog shows, and talking to people who have a lot of experience with the breed. We found that they are candid and tell you the breed's strength AND weaknesses. After all, they don't want you to get one of their breed and be disappointed because there is something about it you didn't expect and don't like.

I totally agree with you there... we were looking at a weimeraner and a few other breeds, although Kris was leaning toward boxers because he always had one and was familiar with the breed. We hit a major dog show last year and talked to owners of all of our prospective breeds and got a really good sense of breed temperaments. I am glad we did; we learned a LOT and ended up avoiding what would have been some very bad choices for us. Plus you get to visit dogs. :D :D :D

BTW... I took the test and ended up up with a portuguese water dog.. boxer wasn't on my list :( . Fun though, I love internet quizzes :D

I ended up with Poodles, Collies, Portugese Water Dogs, and a few others. I took that test MANY times to try and mess with the results!

Nope, I'd never use one. They're just not detailed enough. If you've absolutely no idea of what breed you want, then they could be useful for throwing up suggestions, or for weeding out the things you definitely don't want (lots of hair, for example) but that's about the extent of it. I wouldn't buy a car or a house, or choose a career that way either ;) IMO choosing the right sort of dog takes the same sort of detailed consideration.

For the Purina one I got a Bernese Mountain dog and several types of Spaniels. For the second quiz I got a Golden Retriever (which I would not own as I just don't like them) but my second dog was ...... Yep a Boxer. :) Which matched my profile at 86%.
Those were fun Thanks

No, Boxer listed on the list for me. I have had a Boxer since I was 5, so this is proof that the list is not accurate. To much margin for error.
