Hey guys

I just got a beautiful female fawn recently. She is the greatest except for a few small problems. When I got her, she had coccidia, paresites, and was anemic. I spent loads of money, almost had to get a blood transfusion and who knows what else. Anyway, she wouldn't eat normal dog food. I tried wet and dry of all the brands the vet suggested. I finaly ended up making a ricew and chicken mush. She loved that. Well, now she is better, still thin, but still doesn't want any other type of food excpet for fresh chicken. I have mixed broth and chicken in her dry kibble. She sorts out the ckicken. I have treied everything. Molly has me trained, I tell ya.
What do I do to get her eating her dog food? I hear that if I leave her be, she will eventually get hungry and eat her own food. I am reluctant to do this because of her past.
Please help

Please help me too

Yes some one please help. My little one is almost 4 months and she will not anything. I feed her in the morning and leave it down all day, she will eat about two bites and leave it alone. She is so picky that she will eat at dinner if I put an egg in it on the first day but not after that. I have tried chicken broth, eggs, canned food, cheese, peanut butter... you name it I have tried it. The vet says that I should not worry but I do, she looks like a greyhound..ack

don't worry

I wouldn't worry too much. I had the same problem for awhile. I tried all the premium dog food brands and found not one that Molly liked. I eventually starting putting an egg or cottage cheese with her kibble. If she didn't eat her food in 20 min or less, I took it up. the next go round, she devoured the whole bowl. I know it seems risky, but boxers have a way of training their masters too.

I too have the same problem!!! Except multiplied by 2.

I have 2 young boxers (13 months a piece). They too are picky eaters. I found what helps though, through suggestions of a friend and breeder and my own ideas combined, is dry food, a bit of water (for a slurpy treat at the end), about a dozen cubes of Steve's Real Food (I use the chicken or turkey, the beef is a little more expensive) or a 1 inch slice of Red Barn beef (I've been told the Red Barn Lamb can give loose stools and the chicken didn't smell good to me personally!) mashed in and mixed with a little ranch dressing (Kraft of course!). I alternate the Steve's and Red Barn.

I do agree with taking the food up after a short period of time, that too has helped. My young boy ate most of his food tonite after not eating much of 3 meals. My girl is pretty consistent now though. However, she may be coming into heat and that also may be contributing to the boy not eating well (per say of the same friend and breeder).

If anyone has any other suggestions, PLEASE, they are more than welcome!!!

P.S. I mix one cup of Nutro Natural for High Energy dogs and 1 cup Diamond Lamb and Rice for the dry kibble...and sometimes when they finish quicker than normal, I try throwing in another cup of one or the other to see if they are still hungry!
