My buddy Brutus got neutered one week ago today. It was a very challenging week trying to keep activities to a minimum. Of course he had to wear the "cone of shame". The doctor said to wear it for 2 weeks but we only managed one week. I couldn't tolerate him running into EVERYTHING with the satellite dish. Couchs, stairs, chairs, kids, speakers, other dogs! I was about to resort to duct taping it together by last night cause he broke it every time he crashed into something! so I just took it off and he has never been happier!!

She's been super clingy the entire time, which isn't like her... crying more often when we're somewhere she can't get to. By Monday she was starting to perk up and get her spunk back. She snuck up on the couch a few times despite my "ah ah!". Today she's already bouncing off the furniture again (she literally springs up on one couch, pounces down, and immediately springs up on another couch like some kind of giant mutant bunny). I'm trying to keep her from going full out crazy so she doesn't pop a stitch, but it's tough! The stitches are probably starting to itch because she keeps trying to sneak a lick at them, but she stops when I tell her to. She didn't bother with them the first few days so thankfully we didn't need a cone. She finished her pain meds yesterday, but she probably didn't really even need the last 2 doses. I'm still sleepin on the couch because the bed is too high for her to jump on just yet. I curl up on my side in spoon position and she lays in the curve of my legs with her head on my knee.
Oh, and she finally reach 45 pounds! She's almost 11 months old (the 24th). I'm hopeful that she'll reach 50 pounds... my tiny little peanut lovicon

Thats so funny about wanting your dog to act the opposite of how they are acting. Brody hadn't been all the spunky with the food we had been feeding him so we finally swapped and he's back to super hyper and crazy!! I told him last night if he did'nt calm down I was gonna go back to his old food! hahaha. Cracks me up how we worry about them when their down and wish they would calm down when their hyper.

Glad Thora spay went well. I had a similar experience with my boys at my parents house. They have never ran off leash at their house so me and bf decided to give it a try and see how it went. My guys have a pretty good recall I thought until we took the leashed off. I swear the second they knew they were free they headed straight for the road the only thing that finally got their attention was that I told them we were going bye bye. Can I say me and bf had a heart attack that day!

Concerning the recall, I have 2 different dogs.
Oxford, who is the "little devil" (including dog reactive) is so good at recall! I think part of it is Oxford is in love with me. I don't know why, and how this happened, but he would do anything to be with me. (he even hesitate to go for a walk with DH without me.. when DH wants to put his leash on, Oxford comes to me.. oh boy...)
Which I don't encourage...
But if I leave him off-leash, and I never ever trained him for that, but I just have to say "Ooooooooxxyyyyyyyy" and hop he comes!!
Snatch.. hmmm.. Snatch is another thing. That one.. oh sometimes I want to .. arrrghhhhhh!!!!!
Oh he doesn't go far.. just a few step back and will NOT let himself get caught. You know, of course, with "the look".
This happened last November. One hour he was playing his little game.
I tried everything.. like ignoring him, seating on the grass, laying flat in the grass, trying to give up and play throwing his stick... NOTHING worked! .. until.. and this is because he loves DH so much.. I said "hmmm I think Chrissoo's here! Do you see him" And for that split second when Snatch looked out of his stupid game of "you'll never get me!!" I leaped and grabbed him. UGH! I, of course, gave him treats and praise for letting himself get grabbed. I never get mad at him for getting caught afterwards... (even though i am SOOOOO mad at that point!!!)
Oh and of course, Snatch is the one I "trained" over and over, as puppy, on recall, using long lead, treats and all...
This happened because I had left home with my magical trick:
One things that works with Snatch: I NEVER ever leave him off leash without me having the treat pouch with treats, and the clicker. Before leaving him off-leash, i click-treat like 5 times... And then after I leave him off leash. He is SO treat motivated, than after that, when i call him, any movement of him coming my way, I click to mark the good behavior and he comes sprinting my way

Ahhh! look at Snatch! So cute. Glad you found something that works for him. Thora is only treat motivated in the house. After she got out once at the old house I reserved the word "cookie" as suggested by another user, but sometimes it's not enough to get her to come. Some mornings I can't even get her in her crate with the cookie... and then we play chase around the house until I catch her and drag her there
The only thing she is super responsive too is tennis balls (I buy the Kong squeaker ones). It's hardly practical to always carry around a tennis ball though. I'm going to be looking to enroll her in training or get a private session shortly because there's other areas that she needs a lot of work with and the things that worked with Tuff don't work with her. Hopefully we can get recall down a little better as well.
