Tuff Love
Boxer Insane
The little stinker certainly keeps me on my toes...
Early this morning, 2 burning questions were answered:
"Would she stay within her perimeter if she was loose in the yard??" NOPE!
"If she got out would the recall we've been working on be enough to get her to come back??" NOPE!
At about 7 this morning, I let the pup out for some potty time. As some of you recall from past posts, our new house is on a wooded lot and at this point we can't have a fence, so I have to keep her on a retractable leash when I take her out. Well, I must have accidentally hooked her rabies tag instead of her collar loop, and POP, the leash sprung off while she was at the full extent of the leash... and she seized the opportunity. So there I am out front, trying to remain composed and keep a happy, positive tone as I try to call her & prompt her to come in my direction (meanwhile having a silent heart attack). It takes all of a half a second to see that it's not working as she continues to dart through the trees and brush with ease, getting further away. So out I go, in nothing but my zebra socks and my leopard print robe.... stomping through the snowy ground, still trying to be calm as she gets further and further away. I quickly see that I'm getting nowhere fast, so I run inside and throw on my slippers with lightning speed and grab my car keys (just in case). So off I go trotting down my long driveway and down the road & I spot her in the neighbor's yard down the way. I keep talking to her in a happy calm voice and she's standing there in the yard sniffing at their dog's something or another that was left in the lawn. Thankfully she stood there long enough that I could grab her collar and tote her little mischievous hiney away with me... back up through the neighbor's yard, up the hill, and back up my driveway to the house. I put her in the house and closed the door so I could warm up the car because we had a vet appointment this morning for her spay. And of course, when I went back to the front door, it was locked :/ Luckily the door that goes from inside the garage to the house is always unlocked, so I was able to get in through the garage entry.
What a morning
My heart was racing for a good while afterwards. I couldn't believe the irony that here it is, the day of her spay, and she gets off her leash. I was visualizing little mutt puppies from the troll down the street and his goofy dog. To add insult to injury, the rabies tag that the leash had clipped to broke off, so if I wouldn't have gotten her she would have been running around without tags :( What an ordeal. DH and I had said that as soon as she was recovered from her spay we were going to find a behaviorist or enroll her in some training to help us get a handle on her trouble areas. Clearly we need it!
Anyways, the vet called an hour or so ago and things went well with her spay. They normally keep them overnight now, but I asked the vet if I could bring her home tonight because I was uncomfortable leaving her there without overnight supervision, and she said that's fine. So we can go get her tonight at 7:30 and let the fun begin as we try to keep a 10 month boxer pup calm for the next week

I am sorry to say, but the thought of running through snow in slippers sounds a bit funny and brought a smile to my face!
. thought the imagery would bring a few chuckles
