ok so the more research i do the more i realise my boys breeder may have been a 'backyard breeder'
i did plenty of research on boxers them selves, however realise now i should have looked more into the breeding/breeder standard side of things.
i mean im surethe standards differ from USA to australia.
But can somebody give me an out right defanition of the term 'backyard breeeder'.

I ended up buying from a BYB :( I even knew better at the time; but I was sick with grief, and once Daisy was in my arms I just couldn't let her go. I will Not be putting myself in that position again in the future!

A backyard breeder typically will own both of the Boxer parents, will not have heart holtering done, genetic testing done, thyroid testing done, etc (some will have a basic regular vet say yes they're healthy but nothing past a hands on physical), many times does not have a health guarantee, does not have a spay/neuter contract for pet Boxers/white Boxers, will let the pups go sooner than 8 weeks old, dam and sire probably have not been in the show ring. These are just a few "red flags".

A reputable breeder will have all (expensive) genetic testing done, heart, thyroid, hips, etc, dam and sire will both have won conformations, a health guarantee for at least 3 years, temperament testing, most of the time separate folks own dam and sire, pups are kept with mother and littermates until at least 8 weeks (sometimes longer), many times there is a waiting list for a pup, will have spay/neuter contracts for pet only pups and white pups.

Again, these are just some of the bigger points. Most of them are pretty "non negotiable" or point out a retupable breeder from a backyard breeder for sure. A few things you can have "gray" on but there are a few that are black and white and stay the same.

Even if you did get your pup from a backyard breeder, there isn't much you can do at this point. All you can do is arm yourself with info for the next time and love your pup for who they are now.

I think I purchased my little one years ago from one. She did not want me to come to where she had him. I got him at a gas station and seen an ad on the thrify nickle. I know he has issues because when I got him his feet were so flat as if he was in a cage. I didnt care I wanted to save him so I paid for him and six years later he is still with me. He does have issues though. He is on prozac and has sever anxiety etc. I would do my research and see what she has to offer but you would know by the information that you recieve, if you have access to mom and dad of the pups, genetic testing, and a warranty if you take your baby to the vet and the dog has issues. I did not have any of that. Just be careful and make sure you know about mom and dad. I neutred my pup because he was not a good canidate to breed. I am just glad that I was able to save his life. well its looks as tho my Diablow is a backyarrd breed baby :(
i love him all the same, hes health is currently excellent, however when i picked him up he had serious case of worms ( i corrected that instantly!!) hes white so i didnt expect papers?
and she was feeding him PAL and WOOF BIX :| horrid!!!!
Both mother and father were present owned by the breeder in question and she didnt know as much as she should have. Father attacked puppies that were irritating himon our arrival he and another of there boxers were then locked in the house, mother had a beautiful temprement.
Diablow was quiet and sick. He threw up a couple of times, i had to help him, he was also a great lookin pup and very affectionate.
What sadens me most is i saved my boy but there were four others there already 11weeks old. It scares me to think where they may have ended up.
There was no 'temprement' match it was just which one do yaz like, money please and have him. :(

MY next pup (little deaf deisel) i am picking up on tuesday breeders seem to have alot more of facts in order, they are feeding science diet puppy and asked alot of questions about where he was going etc etc. Altho he is only the cost of his vaccinations and vet checks, due to them wanting him to go to a suitable home. Sounds alot more hopeful then poor diablow breeders.

Another thing BYB's are known for:
Advertising their pups. Newspapers and online.
Reputable, responsible breeders more often than not have waiting lists of people who want their pups. They don't go looking for people, the potential buyers find them.

I wouldn't let food play into the decision. I know quite a few reputable breeders that don't know anything about food. Also Science Diet is one of the worst, but regardless even some of the best breeders feed poor quality food.

May be better but the second one sounds like BYB's too to be honest. JMO.

But yes food is a complicated thing :S When you think your making a good choice something bad happens . Ill be switching him to raW anyway.
i called her last night her boxer (dam) is registered and she does shows, the father also a show dog was hired on a stud fee but she has pictures. :D:D yayyz bit of progress

Doing shows doesn't mean a whole lot, they both need to be winning to prove that they are the best of the best of the breed and deserve to be bred.
