One of our dogs has a definite odor problem. She has allergies, and has had problems with yeast infections in her ears. The ears cleared up fine when we used the medicine that the vet gave us. But she still has this odor that doesn't go away. Can yeast infect the skin and make the whole dog smell? Right now, her ears are fine, but the body stinks. We try bathing her in an all natural, oatmeal shampoo, and that helps for about 1 or 2 days, then the odor comes right back. Any suggestions?

Not sure about the body getting a smell from yeast,(possible I guess) but when ours have had yeast infections on their face and feet, our vet recommended "Nizoral AD" it is an anti-fungal/anti dandruff shampoo. You can get it at any drug store, about $11 here. She told me she could sell me one of theirs but this would do the same thing and was a little cheaper.:p
I just put them in the tub and bathe their whole body with it anyway of course being careful around the eyes. So far it has worked fine.:) I think it even comes with extra moisturizers now.

I have had a "stinky" foster. His skin was infected with secondary infections in addition to demodex. This made him very stinky within days of his bath. If your boxer has infected skin this may be the smell. I would check with my vet to see if she has yeast or other skin infections anywhere else.

Good point, adeinert...
I forgot to mention that you should get a skin scraping done.

My sister has a chocolate lab that has had problems with his ears for many years. Originally, the vet thought it was a yeast infection. And I don't remember if, in fact, it was, and just developed into more. Now, his ears (the flaps) fill with fluid (blood, etc.) and are very painful to him...But there is a definite odor attached to the ear problems that he has been having. I don't know...just wanted to share...
