Our visit with the vet did not bring much hope. His tumor has already grown back and is larger than what it was originally. His only hope is amputation but because the tumor is so high (at the top of his back leg just beneath his butt) he couldn't have the usual amputation at the femur. He would have to have everything amputated up into his hip. And because these tumors have tentacles she could not even guarantee that would get it all. My husband doesn't think its worth it to put him through that during what might be his last months. And I think I agree. Its not a simple procedure or recovery. The vet was very honest and agreed that it was a lot to put him through for possibly very little in return. I'm so sad for him. He seems to know something is wrong. He just has this little look on his face. And he started limping again over the weekend. I hate to see him limp.
We rescued Trucker 5years ago after he was hit by a car and never claimed at the shelter. He has been such a loving, loyal dog. He has a lot of quirks and challenges but we love him anyway. There will never be another Trucker. Not that I don't love Fluffy but she is much more independent and reserved. Trucker is just a big, dumb, love (with HIS people). I feel so bad that all this is happening now when we are less than 5weeks away from having another child. Its just such a hectic time and he isn't getting the special attention he deserves.
