Talked to the cardiologist. Seems we are on the same page. Cami restarted the new meds as neither of us felt that her issues last night were related to the initial dose. In fact probably symptoms of why the new meds are being introduced.

Still can't say with 100% accuracy however since she isn't a textbook case we are literally winging it. Praying for the best but not going in with blinders on.

She is resting, yet again. Laying in the warm sunlight coming through the window. Haven't seen the sun in a while so I am sure she will soak up as much as she can. She is almost cat-like in that way! I may just steal a portion of her bed and use it as a pillow and crash with her.....if I didn't have so many things to do. On 2nd thought the "things" will still be there whenever I get around to them. She is much more appealing to me than taxes!

Thank you all for putting up with my vents and ramblings as well as continuing to offer your kind words of support, suggestions and prayers.

It is terribly cold but the sun is shining bright today here in Ohio!
I finished work for the day and came home to a warm and snuggly Boxer.
Since she is going pretty stir crazy with limited activity and single digit temps I decided to take her for a bit of a stroll.
We headed out and she was allowed to lead the way.....enjoyed the heck out of being in front of mom.
We walked for about 8 minutes. I know it doesn't seem like much but baby steps are what we feel comfortable with right now. She would have gladly kept going.

Headed to the backyard when we got home and she took one of her toys outside. Lost interest in carrying it around but the fact that she even thought about playing was wonderful.
It's the little things like this that show me glimpses that Cami is still with us...and wants to be.

The only way to describe her progress to becoming stable is that aside from maybe 2 days where she seemed to have set backs the rest of the days have either shown progress or remained constant.

The meds have not caused any nausea to the point of vomiting or any diarrhea but the GAS, which is a new thing for her is pretty pungent! To think that all of these years I have been reading posts about Boxers and their smelly gas yet had NO CLUE! Well nix that. Now I do. :D

Her water consumption which was quite increased from normal when she came home from the ICU waned a bit and I was feeling more comfortable with the intake. This past weekend it spiked back up to its heaviest. That is bothering me quite a bit. Docs have never seemed to be concerned when I mention it. Her kidney values while higher than normal are not so high as to warrant this amount. Will continue to monitor.

Talked to the doc about antibiotics for her staph infection and was told that it would be OK to administer however I am cleaning the area nightly with peroxide and that seems to be helpful. **Someone here suggested that and I appreciate it! While it isn't getting rid of it I do believe it is helpful.

In my multiple hours spent just THINKING about her health I wondered about how much of her lethargy is related to her heart, the meds or her thyroid. Sent off an e-mail to Dr. Jean Dodd's of Hemopet and bless her heart....responded to my inquiry while away in Italy on vacation visiting friends. She thought that we would be safe to increase her Soloxine to 0.35mgs twice a day from her current low dose of 0.3mgs twice a day. She is pretty much void of hair on the back of her legs, stomach and it is starting to work its way up her sides. That along with the staph and being so tired just got me thinking that maybe the thyroid could use a boost. Will have to ponder that for a while still and bring it up at the next cardio appt. next week.

A few short lived bouts of nausea. Smacking lips and that little hack-like cough where it appears that she is trying to get something out of her throat. Could be a reaction to acid reflux. She has done it for years but it was surprisingly absent for the past few weeks after coming home until recently.

I have always gotten the brunt of her "attitude". Considering that she has been poked and prodded her entire life and I am the one that is usually inspecting her she has always tended to give me warnings in the form of growls when she doesn't want to be bothered or feels as if she has had enough! She has grown tired of me checking her pulse and doesn't mind telling me so! She is so over being "inspected" and I don't blame her but.....gotta do what I gotta do and I am not above bribing her. Peanut butter is a life saver!!

She is maintaining a good appetite and has gained close to 2 pounds during January that she lost while in ICU. Considering she gets 22 pills a day and all are given with treats/peanut butter it would be hard NOT to gain! Still has not gotten back the lost muscle mass but that will take longer since she isn't able to exercise fully. Good thing she was such a strong, stout--thick built girl going into this. She does look "tiny" to me in the back end and I am trying to get over that.

She has her moments of doing nothing but sleeping but what we didn't recognize previously was that even when she was sleeping she didn't look like she was resting. Here lately she sleeps much more peacefully. Or at least it appears that way to us. Not having near as many tremor episodes so that is a good thing. I wish they would go away completely since they make me pretty nervous to witness.

All in all we feel as if we are heading in the right direction. I envision her lounging outside in the spring with me sitting on the patio concentrating on the season change and watching her out of the corner of my eye. I hope it is more than a day dream and we do get more time with our precious girl. She so loves to be outside and I want nothing more than for her to enjoy more springs and summers.

I fully realize that I may be seeing things that I want to see and masking what is really going on but I suppose that could be my minds way of helping me to get through this. I keep repeating to myself what the doc said at the last visit. Cami will never be "normal" again. When she does something....breathes funny, heavy, pants, etc....I think maybe this is the "new" normal. The new normal will be fine but will take a little getting used to since we are just getting acquainted. Same adorable package that I am used to so it shouldn't be that hard!

glad to hear things are going well :) keeping that positive attitude is what's going to get you both through this. it sounds like you've got the right balance of a cool head and an open mind.
i know exactly how you feel taking the brunt of trying to be a good mom. i've always had to be "dr. mom" with my boy cleaning all his wounds, infections, surgeries, etc... nowadays he runs at the mere sight of a q-tip!!!

So pleased Cami and you are dealing with all that life seems to be throwing at you..Our thoughts and good vibes are coming your way...We were told Millie was a 'no hope' puppy when we got her at 8 weeks, our vet told us her aortic stenosis was pretty bad, and she wouldn't live till adult hood with a heart that sounded as bad as a 'squeaky, rusty old wheel' ( our vets words, when he was examining a pup that looked the picture of health), we were referred to the best cardioligist at the RCVS here in the the UK, and he told us the same, one day she would just drop down, and that would be it, nothing could be done..She's still here punching at nearly 10, defying all odds, coughing, panting, and having her odd 'funny turns', when she collapses. Each time, she has those episodes,.. I'm there stroking her, and massaging her chest, and telling her to come back..Thank God, she always does...I'm sure Cami will be doing the same, she has all your love and care, and the best Boxer Mum ever..
Remember to take care of yourself too, I know how tiring it all is...Lots of love from me and Millie xx
